  1. 11. Charcot-Marie-tooth disease : muscle morphological and neurophysiological aspects

    Författare :UllaBritt Ericson-Gripenstedt; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT) is a common inherited disorder of the peripheral nervous system characterised by distal weakness and muscular atrophy, sensory disturbance of the distal limbs, diminished or absent deep tendon reflexes and often pes cavus. CMT is divided into two major groups based on clinical and electrophysiological findings. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Norrbottnian congenital insensitivity to pain

    Författare :Jan Minde; Göran Toolanen; Li Tsai-Fällender; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pain insensitivity; HSAN; Orthopaedics; Ortopedi;

    Sammanfattning : Congenital insensitivity to pain is a rare hereditary neuropathy. We present patients from a large family in Norrbotten, Sweden with a mutation in the nerve growth factor β gene (NGFß). Using a model of recessive inheritance, we identified an 8.3-Mb region on chromosome 1p11. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Retinal thickness measured with optical coherence tomography in patients with multiple sclerosis

    Författare :Ulrika Birkeldh; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The retina offers a unique window to the brain with its unmyelinated axons that converge to the optic nerve. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a well-established and non-invasive imaging technique in the ophthalmology field. The retinal layers can be imaged directly, and OCT is often described as an optical biopsy of retinal tissue. LÄS MER

  4. 14. New functional and anatomical aspects of the organisation of human peripheral nerve

    Författare :Rolf Ekedahl; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Somatosensory system; Peripheral nerve organisation; somatotopy; modalitysegregation; cutaneous mechanoreceptors; Human.Huddinge 1996;

    Sammanfattning : The functional topography of peripheral nerves has been studied by various indirect electrophysiological and histological methods. Even though some studies have suggested the presence of a somatotopical arrangement of nerve fibres, the prevailing view is that a random distribution of nerve fibres develops in the nerve due to the repeated rearrangement of nerve fascicles along their centripetal course. 5. 15. Neuropeptides in bone and joint tissues : alteration in adjuvant arthitis

    Författare :Adlan Mahmoud Elhassan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the localization, distribution and quantification of met-enkephalin (Met-enk), neurokinin-A and somatostatin in normal bone and joint tissues of the rat have been studied. Moreover, concentration alterations of these neuropeptides at the site of inflammation in the arthritic ankle joints as well as the spinal cords were evaluated. LÄS MER
