21. Understanding Intergenerational Mobility : Inequality, Student Aid and Nature-Nurture Interactions
Sammanfattning : Essay I: A body of evidence has emerged in the literature on intergenerational mobility documenting that unequal countries experience less social mobility: a relationship known as the Great Gatsby Curve. In this paper I estimate the Great Gatsby Curve within Sweden across 125 commuting zones and 20 cohorts, exploiting both cross-sectional and longitudinal variation. LÄS MER
22. Understanding Task Parallelism : Providing insight into scheduling, memory, and performance for CPUs and Graphics
Sammanfattning : Maximizing the performance of computer systems while making them more energy efficient is vital for future developments in engineering, medicine, entertainment, etc. However, the increasing complexity of software, hardware, and their interactions makes this task difficult. LÄS MER
23. Understanding the Noise : Spliceosomal snRNA Profiling
Sammanfattning : The concept of the gene has been constantly challenged by new discoveries in the life sciences. Recent challenging observations include the high frequency of alternative splicing events and the common transcription of non-protein-coding-RNAs (ncRNAs) from the genome. The latter has long been considered noise in biological systems. LÄS MER

25. Understanding Certificate Revocation
Sammanfattning : Correct certificate revocation practices are essential to each public-key infrastructure. While there exist a number of protocols to achieve revocation in PKI systems, there has been very little work on the theory behind it: Which different types of revocation can be identified? What is the intended effect of a specific revocation type to the knowledge base of each entity? As a first step towards a methodology for the development of reliable models, we present a graph-based formalism for specification and reasoning about the distribution and revocation of public keys and certificates.
