    Sammanfattning : This thesis is concerned with scheduling the use of resources, or allocating resources, so as to meet future demands for the entities produced by the resources. We consider applications in mobile communications such as scheduling users' transmissions so that the amount of transmitted information is maximized, and scenarios in the manufacturing industry where the task is to distribute work among production units so as to minimize the number of missed orders.     Sammanfattning : Essay 1 - To evaluate measures of expectations I examine and compare some of the most common methods for capturing expectations: the futures method which utilizes financial market prices, the VAR forecast method, and the survey method. I study average expectations on the Federal funds rate target, and the main findings can be summarized as follows: i) the survey measure and the futures measure are highly correlated; the correlation coefficient is 0.
