  1. 1. Environmental Modelling : Learning from Uncertainty

    Författare :John M. Juston; Per-Erik Jansson; Jens Christian Refsgaard; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; Models; data; error; uncertainty; hydrology; soil carbon; wetlands; phosphorus;

    Sammanfattning : Environmental models are important tools; however uncertainty is pervasive in the modeling process.   Current research has shown that understanding and representing these uncertainties is critical when decisions are expected to be made from the modeling results. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Observational Uncertainties in Water-Resources Modelling in Central America : Methods for Uncertainty Estimation and Model Evaluation

    Författare :Ida Westerberg; Sven Halldin; Jan Seibert; Lars-Christer Lundin; Chong-Yu Xu; Deliang Chen; Alberto Montanari; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Central America; Discharge; Flow-duration curve; Fuzzy regression; GLUE; Model evaluation; Non-stationarity; Observational uncertainty; Precipitation; Quality control; Rating curve; Regionalisation; Uncertainty estimation; Ungauged basins; Water resources; Avbördningskurva; Centralamerika; GLUE; icke-stationaritet; kvalitetskontroll; modellutvärdering; nederbörd; observationsosäkerheter; avrinningsområden utan vattenfö-ringsdata; oskarp regression; osäkerhetsuppskattning; regionalisering; varaktighetskurva; vattenföring; vattenresurser; Hydrology; Hydrologi; Hydrology; Hydrologi;

    Sammanfattning : Knowledge about spatial and temporal variability of hydrological processes is central for sustainable water-resources management, and such knowledge is created from observational data. Hydrologic models are necessary for prediction for time periods and areas lacking data, but are affected by observational uncertainties. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Modelling and Management of Uncertainty in Production Systems : from Measurement to Decision

    Författare :Károly Szipka; Andreas Archenti; Sten Dr. Bergstrand; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Precision engineering; Uncertainty modelling; Machin-ing system capability; Production Engineering; Industriell produktion;

    Sammanfattning : The advanced handling of uncertainties arising from a wide range of sources is fundamental in quality control and dependability to reach advantageous decisions in different organizational levels of industry. Es-pecially in the competitive edge of production, uncertainty shall not be solely object of estimation but the result of a systematic management process. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Monitoring transport and fate of de-icing salt in the roadside environment : Modelling and field measurements

    Författare :Annika Lundmark; Per-Erik Jansson; Bo Olofsson; Ann-Catrine Norrström; Helen K. French; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chloride; De-icing salt; Groundwater; Modelling; Monitoring; Road; Roadside; Soil water; Water in nature and society; Vatten i natur och samhälle;

    Sammanfattning : Roads and traffic are a major non-point source of pollutants and may have severe impacts on surface water, groundwater, soil and vegetation. In cold climates, de-icing salt is one such pollutant that may cause increased chloride concentrations and induce other effects on the environment. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Modelling, mapping and visualisation of flood inundation uncertainties

    Författare :Nancy Joy Lim; Stefan Seipel; S. Anders Brandt; Eva A. U. Sahlin; Matthew Wilson; Högskolan i Gävle; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cartography; flood; hydraulic modelling; GIS; map; uncertainty; visualisation; GIS; hydraulisk modellering; karta; kartografi; osäkerhet; visualisering; översvämning; Hållbar stadsutveckling; Sustainable Urban Development;

    Sammanfattning : Flood maps showing extents of predicted flooding for a given extreme event have wide usage in all types of spatial planning tasks, as well as serving as information material for the public. However, the production processes that these maps undergo (including the different data, methods, models and decisions from the persons generating them), which include both Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and hydraulic modelling, affect the map’s content, and will be reflected in the final map.
