1. Phylogeny and Taxonomy of Childia (Acoela) : New characters for unraveling acoel phylogenies from molecules, ultrastructure, immunocytochemistry and confocal microscopy
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a comprehensive phylogenetic and taxonomic study of an acoel subgroup, the Childiidae. Members of this taxon are characterized by well-developed male copulatory organs with conical/cylindrical stylets. LÄS MER
2. Significance of mitochondrial ultrastructure for bioenergetics
Sammanfattning : Mitochondria are the site where most of the energy from food is converted into adenosine triphosphate (ATP). This process is taking place at the inner membrane (IM) of mitochondria, and is called oxidative phosphorylation, and results in the establishment of a proton motive force (pmf). LÄS MER
3. Hygroelastic behaviour of wood-fibre based materials on the composite, fibre and ultrastructural level
Sammanfattning : Wood fibres can be used as reinforcement in plastics for load carrying purposes. Some advantages compared with conventional man-made fibres are that wood fibres come from a renewable resource, have high specific stiffness and strength, are generally less hazardous to health, biodegradable, and can be manufactured at low cost and high volumes. 4. Pollen and pollination in Ephedra (Gnetales)
Sammanfattning : Ephedra (Gnetales) is a gymnosperm genus with a long evolutionary history; the first dispersed pollen grains with affinity to the group are known already from the Permian. This thesis focuses on the evolutionary history of the group and different aspects of its pollination mechanisms. LÄS MER
5. Mechanisms of granule protein mobiliation in blood eosinophils
Sammanfattning : Serum levels of eosinophil granule proteins namely ECP, EPO and EPX, which are stored in the matrix of specific granules, were shown to correlate with the course of disease in disorders involving eosinophils. The concentration of eosinophil proteins in serum is the result of their release in vivo and ex vivo during the sampling procedure. LÄS MER
