1. Type 1 diabetes in children with non-Swedish background : epidemiology and clinical outcome
Sammanfattning : Sweden holds third place of diabetes incidence in young people after Finland and Sardinia. One fifth of the population is nowadays of foreign descent. We have a substantial number of immigrants from countries where the risk for T1D is considerably lower. LÄS MER
2. Why do children get diabetes? : A study on some genetical, immunological and environmental factors
Sammanfattning : Insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) is one of the most common and serious chronic disorders of childhood. Despite advances in the knowledge about the cause of IDDM during the last decades the etiology still remains incompletely understood but is probably due to a complex network of genetic, immunological and environmental factors. 3. Fundamental aspects of HiPIMS under industrial conditions
Sammanfattning : Fundamental aspects of the high power impulse magnetron sputtering (HiPIMS) process and its implication for film growth under industrial conditions have been studied. The emerging HiPIMS technique exhibits a higher plasma density and an enhanced degree of ionisation of sputtered material as compared to conventional direct current magnetron sputtering (DCMS). 4. High power impulse magnetron sputtering under industrial conditions
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the recent development step of magnetron sputtering, termed high power impulse magnetron sputtering (HiPIMS) has been studied. Compared to conventional magnetron sputtering HiPIMS provides a higher plasma density which can ionise the sputtered material. LÄS MER
5. Design and Synthesis of Inhibitors Targeting the Aspartic Proteases HIV-1 PR and BACE-1
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the synthesis of molecules designed for inhibition of two aspartic proteases, viral HIV-1 PR and human BACE-1. It also reports on the structure activity relationships of the targeted enzyme inhibitors. It is estimated that currently 33 million people are infected with HIV, the causative agent of AIDS. LÄS MER
