  1. 1. Treatment effects with a mandibular advancement appliance and uvulopalatopharyngoplasty in obstructive sleep apnea -randomised controlled trials-

    Författare :Marie-Louise Walker-Engström; Elisabeth Hultcrantz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology; oral appliance; dental appliance; obstructive sleep apnea; UPPP; quality of life; somnography; randomised controlled trial; one-year follow-up; four-year follow-up; severe obstructive sleep apnea; Fysiologi; Physiology; Fysiologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Enthusiasm for uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) in the treatment of mild-to-moderate obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) has declined in recent years, partly because of a lower success rate over time and partly because of adverse effects. In more severe cases, the patients are generally treated with nasal continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP). LÄS MER

  2. 2. Upper airway surgery in obstructive sleep apnoea : descriptive, observational and randomised controlled studies

    Författare :Nanna Browaldh; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS) is a general health problem which causes daytime sleepiness, impaired quality of life and increased morbidity and mortality. A narrow upper airway anatomy is a common cause of OSAS, and tracheostomy was the initial surgical treatment for OSAS. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty : patient selection, long- term outcomes, and side effects

    Författare :Joar Sundman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) is the most common surgical treatment for adult patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Its short-term efficacy, as measured through polysomnography, is well-established and has been demonstrated in two randomized controlled trials in recent years. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Pharyngeal surgery and epidemiology in sleep apnea

    Författare :Karin Lundkvist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) occurs frequently among adults and children. The first-line treatments in adults are continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) or mandibular retaining devices (MRDs), but the long-term efficacy is only around 60%. LÄS MER
