21. Dynamics of Spent Nuclear Fuel Dissolution : Impact of Catalysis, Matrix Composition and Time Evolution
Sammanfattning : Worldwide, nuclear power produces a large portion of the electricity that we consume every day. While nuclear energy comes with certain advantages, waste originating from its use is of particular concern. LÄS MER
22. Redox Reactions of Uranium-Based Materials in Aqueous Systems and Under UHV Conditions. : Two models mimicking radiation-induced oxidation of spent nuclear fuel
Sammanfattning : The demand for clean electricity is a primary concern in Europe. Nuclear power isconsidered as a greenhouse gas-free technology for generation of electricity. However, compared to other energy sources, it generates a highly toxic waste. In Sweden, the long-term solution for the waste disposal issue is called the KBS-3 method. LÄS MER
23. Radiation induced dissolution of model compounds for spent nuclear fuel : mechanistic understanding of oxidative dissolution and its inhibition
Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis is focused on radiation induced oxidative dissolution of UO2, Pd-doped UO2, SIMFUEL (as model substances for spent nuclear fuel) and UN (a possible future fuel) and inhibition of the oxidative dissolution. H2O2 is assumed to be the most important oxidant for spent nuclear fuel dissolution under deep repository conditions. LÄS MER
24. Ab initio driven modeling of advanced nuclear fuels
Sammanfattning : With the development of clean energy sources such as nuclear power, it has become more important to use advanced nuclear fuels to improve economic efficiency and expand safety margins. Thanks to the high fissile density, high thermal conductivity, and high melting point, uranium nitride and uranium silicide have been considered accident tolerant or high-performance fuels for commercial light water reactors and for future generation reactor systems. 25. Surface Complexation Studies in An (Th, U(IV), Pu(VI)) Systems
Sammanfattning : Two-phase systems containing an electrolyte solution and a suspended solid were studied. The common denominator for the three systems examined in this work is that they contain actinides (elements of atomic numbers between 89 and 103) in either the solid phase or as a sorbate. Experiments were done on simple oxides. LÄS MER
