  1. 1. Geochronology of impact structures - constraining syn- and post-impact processes using the 40Ar/39Ar and U-Pb techniques

    Författare :Maria Herrmann; Berggrundsgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Impact structure; Dating impact events; 40Ar 39Ar dating; U-Pb dating; Siljan impact structure; Mien impact structure; Hummeln impact structure; Puchezh-Katunki impact structure;

    Sammanfattning : The discovery, at the beginning of the 20th century, that elements can transform into other elements, due to the spontaneous decay of an instable to a stable atomic nuclei, gave rise to a powerful source for age information in many fields of earth science. For impact structures, it is crucial to establish well-defined and precise ages in order to understand how impact events affect the Earth’s geo and biosphere and also with regard to possible future events that can have devastating effects on our civilization. 2. 2. Cryptic Orogeny : uplift of the Al Hajar Mountains at an alleged passive margin

    Författare :Reuben Johannes Hansman; Ring Uwe; Joachim Jacobs; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; uplift; mountains; structural; low-temperature; thermochronology; dating; fission-track; U-Th He; U-Pb; calcite; structure-from-motion; photogrammetry; UAV; trishear; fault-propagation; Hafit; Al Hajar Mountains; United Arab Emirates; Oman; Geology; geologi;

    Sammanfattning : Mountains evolve and grow because of the large forces that occur from the collision of tectonic plates. Plate boundaries change and move through time, and regions that were once stable, shallow-marine environments can be dragged into subduction zones and get transformed into vast mountain ranges. 3. 3. The tectonic evolution of the western part of the Svecofennian orogen, central Sweden : Insight from U/Pb and 40Ar/39Ar geochronology at Forsmark

    Författare :Tobias Hermansson; Berggrundsgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; physical geography; Geology; Svecofennian orogen; Tectonic models; Tectonic cycles; Uplift; Cooling; Ductile deformation; Geochronology; U Pb; 40Ar 39Ar; Geologi; fysisk geografi; Petrology; mineralogy; geochemistry; Petrologi; mineralogi; geokemi;

    Sammanfattning : The Forsmark area, in the western part of the Svecofennian orogen, central Sweden, is situated between two major Palaeoproterozoic tectonic domains that show contrasting histories with respect to timing of igneous activity, ductile deformation and metamorphism. At Forsmark, WNW to NW trending, ductile deformation belts anastomose around tectonic lenses with an inferred lower degree of ductile strain. LÄS MER

  4. 4. U-Pb baddeleyite geochronology of Precambrian mafic dyke swarms and complexes in southern Africa - regional scale extensional events and the origin of the Bushveld Complex

    Författare :Johan Olsson; Berggrundsgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; U-Pb TIMS geochronology; geochemistry; baddeleyite; mafic dyke swarms; mantle plume; Bushveld Complex; Kaapvaal Craton; Zimbabwe Craton; Archean; Proterozoic;

    Sammanfattning : Dolerite dykes are formed when iron- and magnesium-rich (mafic) mantle-derived magmas ascend through the lithosphere (upper part of the mantle) and crystallize as ‘hydro-fractures’ within the crust. Dykes may exist in great numbers to form dyke swarms (linear or radiating), which can be linked to time periods of continental break-up, or attempted break-up events, associated with voluminous volcanism. 5. 5. U-Pb dating of detrital zircon from the Mt. Alfred area, Yilgarn Craton, Western Australia

    Författare :Ross Kielman; Martin Whitehouse; Alexander Nemchin; Victoria Pease; Åke Johansson; Jenny Andersson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Detrital zircon; Geochronology; Archean; Hadean; Western Australia; Geology; geologi;

    Sammanfattning : Hadean and Paleo-Eoarchean aged detrital zircon provide a rare glimpse into the nature of the early Earth. Thus, the characterisation of new localities with rocks that host Hadean and Paleo-Eoarchean zircon provide invaluable insight into the Earth’s early crust. LÄS MER
