1. Transmission Electron Microscopy of 2D Materials : Structure and Surface Properties
Sammanfattning : During recent years, new types of materials have been discovered with unique properties. One family of such materials are two-dimensional materials, which include graphene and MXene. These materials are stronger, more flexible, and have higher conductivity than other materials. As such they are highly interesting for new applications, e. LÄS MER
2. Probing Electron Collisions in Nanostructures
Sammanfattning : This thesis studies the role of interaction between charged particles for transport and optical properties in nanostructures. Simulations are provided for a quantitative description of the system dynamics probed by either current spectroscopy or light absorption. LÄS MER
3. Boundary integral methods for fast and accurate simulation of droplets in two-dimensional Stokes flow
Sammanfattning : Accurate simulation of viscous fluid flows with deforming droplets creates a number of challenges. This thesis identifies these principal challenges and develops a numerical methodology to overcome them. Two-dimensional viscosity-dominated fluid flows are exclusively considered in this work. 4. Characteristic properties of two-dimensional superconductors close to the phase transition in zero magnetic field
Sammanfattning : The main focus of this thesis lies on the critical properties of twodimensional (2D) superconductors in zero magnetic field. Simulations based on variants of the 2D XY model are shown to give characteristic features close to the phase transition which agree qualitatively with experimental data. LÄS MER
5. Elastic Wave Scattering by Cracks - Interfacial Forces and High Frequency Diffraction
Sammanfattning : This thesis treats elastic wave scattering by cracks with interfacial forces. The results are of practical interest in ultrasonic testing and includes development of numerical methods used to predict such testing. First the canonical problem of two-dimensional (2-D) diffraction from a semi-infinite crack is solved. LÄS MER
