1. Two Problems in non-linear PDE’s with Phase Transitions
Sammanfattning : This thesis is in the field of non-linear partial differential equations (PDE), focusing on problems which show some type of phase-transition. A single phase Hele-Shaw flow models a Newtoninan fluid which is being injected in the space between two narrowly separated parallel planes. LÄS MER
2. Two Optimization Problems in Genetics : Multi-dimensional QTL Analysis and Haplotype Inference
Sammanfattning : The existence of new technologies, implemented in efficient platforms and workflows has made massive genotyping available to all fields of biology and medicine. Genetic analyses are no longer dominated by experimental work in laboratories, but rather the interpretation of the resulting data. LÄS MER
3. Regularity properties of two-phase free boundary problems
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of four papers which are all related to the regularity properties of free boundary problems. The problems considered have in common that they have some sort of two-phase behaviour. In papers I-III we study the interior regularity of different two-phase free boundary problems. LÄS MER
4. Adaptive Finite Element Methods for Compressible Two-Phase Flow
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we develop, apply and analyse adaptive finite element methods with error control for compressible flow problems, focusing in particular on two-phase flow. The adaptive algorithms, aiming at quantitative error control with efficient use of computational resources, are based on a posteriori error estimates, where the error is estimated in terms of the computed solution, the local mesh-size and certain stability factors. 5. Modelling of Moving Contact Lines in Two-Phase Flows
Sammanfattning : Moving contact line problems appear in many natural and industrial processes. A contact line is formed where the interface between two immiscible fluids meets a solid wall. Examples from everyday life include raindrops falling on a window and water bugs resting on water surfaces. LÄS MER
