1. Chronic intraoral pain - assessment of diagnostic methods and prognosis
Sammanfattning : The overall goal of this thesis was to broaden our knowledge of chronic intraoral pain. The research questions were:•What methods can be used to differentiate inflammatory, odontogenic tooth pain from pain that presents as toothache but is non-odontogenic in origin?•What is the prognosis of chronic tooth pain of non-odontogenic origin, and which factors affect the prognosis?Atypical odontalgia (AO) is a relatively rare but severe and chronic pain condition affecting the dentoalveolar region. 2. Pain and disability in the jaw and neck regions after whiplash trauma : a short- and long-term perspective
Sammanfattning : Whiplash trauma, a hyperextension-flexion trauma to the neck that is often related to a car accident, affects tens of thousands in Sweden every year. A significant proportion will develop long-term symptoms including neck pain and dysfunction – this is embraced as Whiplash associated disorders (WAD). LÄS MER
3. On the relationship between spinal pain and temporomandibular disorders
Sammanfattning : Both spinal pain and temporomandibular disorders (TMD) commonly occur in the general population. Previous studies demonstrate neurophysiologic and biomechanical couplings between the trigeminal and cervical regions. LÄS MER
4. Whiplash associated disorders : acute and chronic consequences with some implications for rehabilitation
Sammanfattning : Background: Whiplash associated disorders (WAD) account for a large proportion of the overall impairment and disability from traffic injuries and causes substantial bio psychosocial consequences for some individuals.Aims: To increase the knowledge about factors described in terms of either function /impairment, activity/disability and life satisfaction in acute and chronic WAD as well as possible implications for rehabilitation. 5. Targeting and driving somatosensory neurons
Sammanfattning : Pain and itch are two distinct sensations, but the fundamental question of how our nervous system distinguishes the processing and encoding of their related information is still far to be clearly delineated. At the spinal cord level, evidences have pointed out specific groups of neurons expressing the gastrin releasing peptide (Grp) and its receptor (Grpr) as responsible for carrying specifically itch-related information.
