1. Hazard assessment of ciprofloxacin, sulfamethoxazole and triclosan for marine periphyton : Ecotoxicology, Pollution Induced Community Tolerance and Co-Tolerance
Sammanfattning : Antibiotics and personal care products are used in large quantities and commonly detected in various environmental compartments. The two antibiotics, ciprofloxacin and sulfamethoxazole, and the personal care product triclosan are among the most commonly detected compounds in sewage treatment plants and aquatic environments. 2. On the fate of triclosan in humans
Sammanfattning : Triclosan is a chlorinated organic compound which, due to its antibacterial properties in vitro, has found widespread use in a variety of products such as textiles, plastics and healthcare products. Humans are directly and chronically exposed to triclosan via dermal and mucosal contact from soap and toothpaste, upon which triclosan is rapidly absorbed into the body. LÄS MER
3. Studies on uptake and effect of triclosan on production of inflammatory mediators in human gingival fibroblasts
Sammanfattning : Triclosan (2,4,4'-trichloro-2'-hydroxy-diphenyl ether) is a lipid soluble anti-bacterial agent widely used in dentifrices, mouthrinses, soap and cosmetics. Although reports on the efficacy of triclosan on periodontal diseases are conflicting, it is documented in clinical studies that dentifrices containing triclosan reduce plaque accumulation and improve gingival health. 4. Fish bile in environmental analysis
Sammanfattning : This work explores the usefulness of fish bile analysis in combination with biomarkers for identifying and evaluating new environmental contaminants in the aquatic environment. It illustrates how bile analysis can be used together with biomarkers to assess the causes of estrogenic effects, to identify chemicals in the aquatic environment that are taken up by fish, and to monitor environmental exposure. 5. Microbial Biofilms in the Bioinformatics Era
Sammanfattning : Adverse effects of anthropogenic impact on the environment have become conspicuous in the past century and among others include the gradual increase in the global CO2 levels, the contamination of air, soil and water by toxic chemicals, and the emergence of antimicrobial resistance among pathogenic microbial species. Microorganisms partake in an extreme diversity of activities in the environment, and hence, constitute the prime candidates to be investigated in understanding of the progression and effects of the aforementioned environmental hazard scenarios.
