  1. 1. Development of Field-adapted Analytical Methods for the Determination of New Antimalarial Drugs in Biological Fluids

    Författare :Niklas Lindegårdh; Karin Markides; Yngve Bergqvist; Anders Colmsjö; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytical chemistry; LC; liquid chromatography; biological samples; SPE; solid phase extraction; validation; antimalarial drugs; amodiaquine; piperaquine; atovaquone; dried blood spots; Analytisk kemi; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the development of analytical methods for the determination of new antimalarial drugs in biological fluids. The goal was to develop methods that facilitate clinical studies performed in the field, such as capillary blood sampling onto sampling paper. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Functional aspects of modified nucleosides in tRNA

    Författare :Hao Xu; Anders S. Byström; Damien Hermand; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; tRNA modification; frameshifting; Elongator complex; Elp1p; Prb1p; proteolysis; glioma; TRM6 61; PKCα;

    Sammanfattning : Transfer ribonucleic acids (tRNAs) are extensively modified, especially their anticodon loops. Modifications at position 34 (wobble base) and 37 in these loops affect the tRNAs’ decoding ability, while modifications outside the anticodon loops, e.g. m1A58 of tRNAMeti, may be crucial for tRNA structure or stability. 3. 3. Iron and macrophages in atherogenesis

    Författare :Xi Ming Yuan; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Oxidation of low density lipoprotein (LDL) may result in its uptake by macrophages and ensuing foam cell formation. Thus, oxidised LDL may play an important role in atherogenesis. Extensive in vitro evidences are in favour of the notion that LDL oxidation by cells present in atherosclerotic plaques requires the presence of transition metals. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The neurotoxin β-N-methylamino-L-alanine (BMAA) : Sources, bioaccumulation and extraction procedures

    Författare :Sandra Ferreira Lage; Sara Rydberg; Ulla Rasmussen; Hanna Mazur-Marzec; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plant Physiology; växtfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : β-methylamino-L-alanine (BMAA) is a neurotoxin linked to neurodegeneration, which is manifested in the devastating human diseases amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. This neurotoxin is known to be produced by almost all tested species within the cyanobacterial phylum including free living as well as the symbiotic strains. LÄS MER
