  1. 1. Translational PET imaging of inflammation

    Författare :Emmi Puuvuori; Olof Eriksson; Tove Grönroos; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; PET imaging; Nuclear Medicine; Inflammation; Translational Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Inflammation is our body’s sophisticated defense mechanism against invading pathogens, traumas, and tumors. Repeatable and non-invasive monitoring of inflammation process would open opportunities to improve our knowledge of several diseases and enable assessment of personalized treatments. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Unraveling Mechanisms of Insulin Resistance in Type 2 Diabetes in Human Adipocytes : Role of extracellular signal regulated kinase 1/2 (ERK1/2) and forkhead box protein 01 (FOX01)

    Författare :Meenu Rohini Rajan; Peter Strålfors; Mats Söderström; Olga Göransson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Type 2 Diabetes is characterized by hyperglycemia primarily caused due to insulin resistance in insulin responsive tissues and insufficient production of insulin by the β-cells. Insulin resistance appears to develop first in the expanding adipose tissue during caloric surplus and affects other tissues like liver and muscle by ectopic fat accumulation. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Complementary and alternative medicine in cancer : from utilization to a randomized controlled trial

    Författare :Kathrin Wode; Per Fransson; Roger Henriksson; Lena Sharp; Johanna Hök Nordberg; Vinjar Magne Fønnebø; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; oncology; epidemiology; evidence-based medicine; neoplasms; pancreatic neoplasms; adult; integrative oncology; complementary therapies; treatment refusal; communication; physician-patient relations; mistletoe; palliative care; quality of life; cross-sectional studies; qualitative research; randomized controlled trial; Sweden; Europe; medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) are non-conventional health care approaches used in parallel with or instead of conventional medicine. Little is known about Swedish patients’ patterns of complementary CAM use in the context of cancer. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Repurposing digitoxin in the treatment of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma : genotypic and phenotypic features as biomarkers for digitoxin sensitivity in vitro

    Författare :Heléne Lindholm; Katarina Ejeskär; Ferenc Szekeres; Maria Faresjö; Sofie Mohlin; Högskolan i Skövde; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma; Na K -ATPase; digitoxin; cardiac glycoside; metabolomics; choline; Translationell medicin TRIM; Translational Medicine TRIM;

    Sammanfattning : The incidence of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is increasing worldwide. The dismal prognosis and lack of effective treatments urges for increased research efforts in developing new treatment regimens. Since the development of new cancer treatments are expensive and time consuming, repurposing drugs is preferable when possible. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Molecular Characterisation and Prognostic Biomarker Discovery in Human Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

    Författare :Karolina Edlund; Patrick Micke; Martin Schuler; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; non-small cell lung cancer; biomarker; prognosis; microarray; copy number aberration; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) constitutes a clinically, histologically, and genetically heterogeneous disease entity that represents a major cause of cancer-related death. Early-stage patients, who undergo surgery with curative intent, experience high recurrence rates and the effect of adjuvant treatment is modest. LÄS MER
