11. The immunoglobulin heavy chain 3ʼ enhancer : coupling of basic-Helix-Loop-Helix proteins to the regulation of enhancer function
Sammanfattning : During B lymphocyte development, the transcriptional activity of the IgH locus is subject to spatial and temporal changes. One cis-control element, the IgH 3' enhancer, has been implicated in regulating functional events in late B cell development. LÄS MER
12. Oxygen-dependent regulation of transcription by the hypoxia-inducible factor-1
Sammanfattning : Under limited oxygen availability (hypoxia) cells undergo rapid reprogramming in order to survive in the new environment until normoxic conditions are re-established. The observation that hypoxia can induce the expression of genes involved in erythropoiesis, angiogenesis and glucose metabolism among others, led to the identification of the hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1) as a master regulator of the hypoxia-response pathway. 13. The impact of transcriptional mutagenesis on cellular homeostasis
Sammanfattning : DNA is exposed to chemical and physical agents that represent a continuous threat to its integrity by formation of DNA lesions. Despite the existence and efficiency of DNA repair systems in cells, some lesions may not be removed, and interfere not only with the fidelity of DNA replication but also with DNA transcription. 14. Regulation of cellular responses to hypoxia by HIF-1alpha-dependent and -independent signaling pathways
Sammanfattning : Hypoxia is a state of inadequate oxygen supply to the cells and tissues of the body. It plays a critical role in embryonic development, as well as in various physiological and pathological processes. LÄS MER
15. Selective induction of apoptosis in tumors by small molecules reactivating p53
Sammanfattning : Lesions in the p53 pathway that inactivate p53 tumor suppression function occur with extremely high frequency in cancer, targeting almost all tumors regardless of patient age or tumor type. This study is aimed at developing approaches for the selective elimination of tumors carrying defects in the p53 pathway, namely protection of p53 from degradation by its own destructor HDM2 in wild type p53-carrying tumors and refolding of p53 by small molecules in mutant p53-containing tumors.
