  1. 1. Forensic taphonomy in an indoor setting : Implications for estimation of the post-mortem interval

    Författare :Ann-Sofie Ceciliason; Ingemar Thiblin; Håkan Sandler; M. Gunnar Andersson; Anders Lindström; Niels Lynnerup; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Forensic taphonomy; Indoor setting; Post-mortem interval estimation; Hepatic decomposition score; Total body score; microbial neoformation; Rättsmedicin; Forensic Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to determine if and how taphonomic data can be used to expand our knowledge concerning the decompositional process in an indoor setting, as well as adapting scoring-based methods for quantification of human decomposition, to increase the precision of post-mortem interval (PMI) estimates.In the first paper, the established methods of Total Body Score (TBS) and Accumulated Degree-Days (ADD) were investigated in an indoor setting, with results indicating a fairly low precision. 2. 2. Pain, fatigue and fear-avoidance beliefs in relation to physical activity and body awareness in persons diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis

    Författare :Helena Lööf; Unn-Britt Johansson; Elisabet Welin Henriksson; Staffan Lindblad; Siv Söderberg; Sophiahemmet Högskola; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Rheumatoid arthritis; Body awareness; Pain; Fatigue; Fear-avoidance beliefs about physical activity; Physical activity; Coping strategies; Cross-cultural adaptation; Concurrent think-aloud interviews; Narrative interviews; Phenomenological; Cross-sectional; Psychometrics; Rheumatoid Arthritis;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: Pain and fatigue are highly common and a major concern for persons diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Having physical limitations, which have a significant effect on daily life, is also described as a major problem for persons with RA. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Body size and physical activity : epidemiological studies on children and young adults

    Författare :Marit Eriksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Body composition; body mass index; body size; epidemiology; family; heritability; obesity; overweight; physical activity; sport;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to increase the knowledge about different aspects of body size and physical activity among Swedish children and young adults. Specific aims were: (i) to investigate how BMI-distributions (BMI=Body Mass Index) have changed among Swedish children over a 12 year period, (ii) to study effects of pre- and postnatal growth on body size and body composition in adolescence, (iii) to study associations between parents and children s physical activity, and (iv) to investigate genetic contributions to physical activity behavior. 4. 4. Assessment of Atherosclerosis by Whole-Body Magnetic Resonance Angiography

    Författare :Tomas Hansen; Håkan Ahlström; Lars Lind; Johan Wikström; Lars Johansson; Björn Fagerberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Radiology; Atherosclerosis; Magnetic Resonance Angiography; Epidemiology; Radiologisk forskning;

    Sammanfattning : Atherosclerosis is a serious threat to public health and a major cause of morbidity and mortality. In this doctoral research, the feasibility of using whole-body magnetic resonance angiography (WBMRA) was studied as a principal aim both in patients and in an epidemiological setting. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Survival of the Tamest : The Domesticated Phenotype in Red Junglefowl Selected for Tameness

    Författare :Rebecca Katajamaa; Per Jensen; Dominic Wright; Ruth C. Newberry; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; domestication; chicken; red junglefowl; tameness; brain size; behaviour; cognition; body size;

    Sammanfattning : Early animal domestication was probably associated with reduced fear of humans. Domestication is a process in which animals adapt to humans and the captive environment provided by humans. Selection on tameness as the only trait has previously been found to generate changes in other phenotypes in different animal species. LÄS MER
