Sammanfattning : Considering myth as the bearer of important symbolism with potentials to reveal history, this dissertation undertakes a historical interpretation of kingship traditions and/or myths in the Great Lakes region. While the historical sources describe the cultures of the peoples of the interlacustrine region, this study goes a step further to develop analytic categories using symbolism to interpret and explain the socio-political developments, which previously have been mystified and hence crystallised in theories as the well-known Hamitic theory. 3. The Messenger of the Lord in Early Jewish Interpretations of Genesis
Sammanfattning : This dissertation investigates the ambiguous relationship between God and ‘the angel of the Lord/God’ in early Jewish interpretations of Genesis, for example, Gen 16:7–14; 22:1–19, and 31:10–13. Although the designation ‘the angel of the Lord’ does not appear in Genesis 32, this text is included because it exhibits the same ambiguity as the explicit ‘angel of the Lord-texts’. LÄS MER
4. Vetekornets väg : Utblottelse hos Dostojevskij och i romanen Bröderna Karamazov
Sammanfattning : This study takes as its starting point John 12:24, the epigraph that Dostoevsky selected for The Brothers Karamazov. The verse is considered here as a pre-figurative model and symbol in Dostoevsky’s thought and authorship. More specifically, the notion of kenosis is argued to constitute a transfigured motif and a gloss for an imitatio ideal. LÄS MER

Sammanfattning : This dissertation deals with Jewish novels from the late Persian, Hellenistic and early Roman periods. The five texts chosen for this study are the Books of Ruth, Judith, Esther, Daniel and Joseph & Aseneth. Focus is on how the Jewish narrators describe non-Jews and non-Jewish religion, and on the relations between Jews and non-Jews. LÄS MER
