16. Anomaly and Topology : On the axial anomaly, domain wall dynamics, and local topological markers in quantum matter
Sammanfattning : Chiral anomalies and topological phases of matter form the basis of the research presented in this dissertation. The chiral anomaly is considered both in the context of magnetic Weyl semimetals and in the context of non-Hermitian Dirac actions. LÄS MER
17. Knots and Transport in Topological Matter
Sammanfattning : Topology has manifestations in physics ranging from the field of condensed matter to photonics. This dissertation provides a two-fold study on the impact of topology in Hermitian and non-Hermitian band structures. LÄS MER
18. Tame representations in Topological Data Analysis: decompositions, invariants and metrics
Sammanfattning : This thesis is a compilation of results that can be framed within the field of applied topology. The starting point of our study is objects presenting a possibly complex intrinsic geometry. The main goal is then to simplify, without trivializing, the geometric information characterising these objects by choosing an appropriate representation. LÄS MER
19. Quasiparticles in the Quantum Hall Effect
Sammanfattning : The fractional quantum Hall effect (FQHE), discovered in 1982 in a two-dimensional electron system, has generated a wealth of successful theory and new concepts in condensed matter physics, but is still not fully understood. The possibility of having nonabelian quasiparticle statistics has recently attracted attention on purely theoretical grounds but also because of its potential applications in topologically protected quantum computing. 20. Crystallization of the superconducting phase in unconventional superconductors
Sammanfattning : Superconductivity is a macroscopic quantum phenomenon, in the sense that a macroscopic number of electrons form a pair condensate, that occupies a single ground state. The electrons in this state are phase-coherent, breaking global U (1)-symmetry, and spatial variations of the phase imply superflows that usually cost kinetic energy, resulting in a uniform and rigid phase.
