  1. 41. Tick-borne encephalitis : clinical and pathogenetic aspects

    Författare :Auksė Mickienė; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :tick-borne encephalitis;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of this study were to investigate the morbidity associated with tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) in the acute stage and at long-term follow-up, to identify the possible host risk factors for development of clinical TBE with special reference to the role of the genetic polymorphism, and to investigate neurochemical changes in the brain induced by TBE virus (TBEV) and their possible role on severity of TBE with special reference to endogenous kynurenic acid (KYNA). Paper I: Of 250 consecutively admitted patients with central nervous system (CNS) infections treated during a 1-year period, all 133 patients with TBE participated in the prospective follow-up study. 2. 42. Studies of Ligands and Receptors Regulating Acute Myeloid Leukemia

    Författare :Pablo Peña; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is the most common leukemia in adults and is coupled to a poor prognosis, with a five-year overall survival of around 20% and a high risk of relapse. In AML, immature myeloid cells accumulate rapidly in the bone marrow impairing normal blood cell development. LÄS MER

  3. 43. Mechanisms of microbial-host interaction during asymptomatic bacteriuria

    Författare :Jenny Grönberg Hernandez; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Asymptomatic bacteriuria; Urinary tract infection; Escherichia coli 83972; IRF3; TLR4; Evolution; host response; promoter polymorphisms; transcription; P fimbriae; Type 1 fimbriae;

    Sammanfattning : Urinary tract infections (UTIs) present an interesting and relevant model for studying microbial adaptation. After establishing significant numbers, the bacteria either cause severe disease, or an asymptomatic carrier state resembling the normal flora at other mucosal sites. LÄS MER

  4. 44. Inflammation and host-microbe signaling in the development and progression of colorectal carcinoma

    Författare :Yinghui Li; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Gut microbiota play an integral role in the postnatal development and maturation of the intestinal epithelium as well as the innate and adaptive immune system. Gut microbes communicate to the host via pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) which regulate intestinal homeostasis during health and disease. LÄS MER

  5. 45. Immune interactions with the liver

    Författare :Azza Karrar; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Liver sinusoid; endothelial cells; apoptosis; antibodies; liver immunity; biliary cells; autoimmune liver diseases; estrogen;

    Sammanfattning : The liver has an important role in the induction of immune tolerance and can be a target for immune mediated damage. The following studies are performed to address the role of liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSEC) in tolerance induction and to understand some of the mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC).
