1. Search for Charginos and Sleptons in ATLAS and Identification of Pile-up with the Tile Calorimeter
Sammanfattning : The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) located at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) is the most powerful particle accelerator in the world in terms of collision energy and luminosity. This thesis presents a search for supersymmetric particles in proton-proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS experiment. LÄS MER
2. Search for Charginos and Sleptons in ATLAS and Identification of Pile-up with the Tile Calorimeter
Sammanfattning : The standard model of particle physics (SM) describes the elementary particles and their interactions. Supersymmetry (SUSY), a symmetry beyond those included in the standard model could resolve some of the SM shortcomings. It can provide a candidate for Dark Matter and a solution to the hierarchy problem. LÄS MER
3. Development of the read-out link and control board for the ATLAS Tile Calorimeter Upgrade
Sammanfattning : The Phase-II upgrade plan for the ATLAS Hadronic Tile Calorimeter facing the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) era includes approximately 1000 radiation tolerant read-out link and control boards (Daughterboards) that will provide full-granularity digital data to a fully-digital trigger system off-detector through multi-Gbps optic fibres. Different Daughterboard (DB) revisions have been developed, each successively aiming to meet the demanding HL-LHC requirements. LÄS MER
4. Demonstrating reliableinstrumentation in theATLAS Tile Calorimeter : Fault tolerance and redundancy in hardware and firmwarefor the Phase-II Demonstrator project in preparation forHigh Luminosity LHC at CERN
Sammanfattning : The Large Hadron Collider at CERN is scheduled to undergo upgrades in 2026-2028 to significantly increase its luminosity. These upgrades, while providing the experiments with a higher collision rate, pose a number of challenges to the design of the hardware and software in the detectors. LÄS MER
5. Construction and Testing of the TileCal Digitizer and an Evaluation of the Discovery Potential for R-Hadrons at the ATLAS Detector at the LHC
Sammanfattning : This thesis comprises two parts. In the first part an overview is given of the Standard Model, Supersymmetry and R-hadrons. R-hadrons are predicted within the framework of the Split-SUSY theory, in which the gluino can have a sufficiently long lifetime to hadronise into so-called R-hadrons. LÄS MER
