  1. 16. Endocrine and therapeutic aspects of infertile women with the polycystic ovary syndrome

    Författare :Margareta Fridström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :cost-effectiveness; FSH threshold; glucocorticoids; granulosa cells; infertility; in vitro fertilisation; obesity; ovulation induction; polycystic ovary syndrome; pregnancy complications;

    Sammanfattning : Fertility treatment with gonadotrophins in infertile clomiphene resistant women with the polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is troublesome with an unpredictive ovarian response. The purpose of this study was to elucidate aspects of ovarian sensitivity and to evaluate treatment efficiency and costs of ovulation induction (OI) and in vitro fertilisation (IVF), as well as pregnancy outcome after infertility treatment in patients with PCOS. 2. 17. Masseter muscle pain and its relation to pain mediators in fibromyalgia and local myalgia

    Författare :Britt Hedenberg-Magnusson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Fibromyalgia; glucocorticoid; intramuscular temperature; isometric contraction; leukotriene B4; masseter muscle; microdialysis; myalgia; neuropeptide Y; pressure pain threshold; pressure pain tolerance level; prostaglandin E2; trapezius muscle; temporomandibular disorders; questionnaire; visual analogue pain scale.;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this investigation was to study chronic jaw muscle pain in fibromyalgia, local myalgia and healthy individuals in relation to the pain mediators PGE2, LTB4 and NPY and to study the effects of glucocorticoid administration and repetitive isometric contraction. A questionnaire showed presence of symptoms from the temporomandibular region in almost all fibromyalgia patients and the local pain was correlated to the general pain but on a lower level. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Longitudinal study of the impact on hearing from aging, genetic background and environmental exposures in male twins

    Författare :Renata Bogo; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Male twins; Longitudinal cohort study; Aging; Genetic influences; Hearing loss Tinnitus; Pure–Tone Average; Threshold shift; Prevalence; Incidence proportion; Noise exposure; Job–Exposure Matrix; Occupational work code;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Hearing loss is a process that normally develops over many years, and the ability to hear high–frequency sounds is often reduced first. Age, repeated exposure to loud noise and other risk factors, diseases, medications and injury, can damage the various structures of the ear and interfere with hearing. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Human exposure to persistent organic pollutants : Illustrated by four case studies in Europe

    Författare :Jana Weiss; Åke Bergman; Janice Huwe; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Human exposure; Persistent organic pollutants POPs ; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Sammanfattning : An extensive use of chemicals in countless consumer products has resulted in human exposure to several persistent organic pollutants (POPs). Sufficient knowledge about their chemical composition properties and environmental faith is required, to be able to proper risk assess and regulate the substances. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Clinical, immunological and olfactory aspects of sinusitis and nasal polyposis : with special reference to patients with cystic fibrosis

    Författare :Gert Henriksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Nasal polyposis; sinusitis; cystic fibrosis; allergy; bacteria; in-patient; interleukin-8; muramidase; nasal lavage fluid; polymerase chain reaction; Pseudomonas aeruginosa; smell; olfaction; anosmia; hyposmia; olfactory threshold test; identification smell test; germ-free animal; T-cell receptor; normal microbiota.;

    Sammanfattning : The otorhinolaryngological approach to the problem concerning rhinosinusitis and nasal polyposis in the recessive genetic disorder of cystic fibrosis (CF) has been developed based on data from international studies. Opinions differ on how to treat the otolaryngological manifestations of CF (sinusitis, nasal polyps and hyposmia). LÄS MER
