21. Unique Solutions to Universal Problems : Studies of the Archaeal Cell
Sammanfattning : Archaea is one of the three domains of life and studies of archaeal biology are important for understanding of life in extreme environments, fundamental biogeochemical processes, the origin of life, the eukaryotic cell and their own, unique biology. This thesis presents four studies of the archaeal cell, using the extremophilic Sulfolobus and ocean living Nitrosopumilus as model systems. LÄS MER
22. Factors influencing the outcome of renovation projects
Sammanfattning : In Sweden, housing accounts for about 23% of all energy consumption. Sweden wants to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2045; as such, it is likely that energy-saving measures for housing will be needed. Many existing buildings have been in operation for 50 years or more and are therefore in need of modernisation. LÄS MER
23. Spatial Marriage Problems and Epidemics
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of four papers covering three different topics on the modeling of large real networks and phenomena thereon. In Papers I and II, we propose and study the properties of a bipartite version of the model introduced by Deijfen, Holroyd and Häggström for generating translation-invariant spatial random graphs with prescribed degree distribution. 24. Verification of networks of communicating processes : Reachability problems and decidability issues
Sammanfattning : Computer systems are used in almost all aspects of our lives and our dependency on them keeps on increasing. When computer systems are used to handle critical tasks, any software failure can cause severe human and/or material losses. LÄS MER
25. Ecotoxicological studies on giant clams (Tridacnidae) : Environmental problems and future concerns
Sammanfattning : Giant clams (Tridacnidae; Bivalvia) are described as important framework builders on coral reefs in the Indo-Pacific region. They are phototrophic as they are associated with primary producing zooxanthellae. Populations are low due to over-exploitation and most species are now endangered in many areas. LÄS MER
