  1. 1. Shifting Dangers in the Shape of Threats and Risks : The Discourse of Swedish Security Policy, 1979-2020

    Författare :Jonatan Stiglund; Mark Rhinard; Håkan Edström; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Threat s ; risk s ; logic s of security; security constructions; discourse s ; Sweden; security policy; accountability; power; internationella relationer; International Relations;

    Sammanfattning : Modern societies have become increasingly preoccupied with the identification and preemption of risk, represented as future possibilities of harm. The study demonstrates how the concept of risk has influenced the contemporary Swedish security discourse and what it means to construct security following a risk logic. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Change and Progress in Disaster Risk Reduction

    Författare :Maximilian S. T. Wanner; Daniel Nohrstedt; Charles F. Parker; Andreas Duit; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; public policy; sustainable development; disaster risk reduction; adaptation; international environmental agreements; soft law; regime effectiveness; Hyogo Framework for Action; Fiji; Nepal; Statskunskap; Political Science;

    Sammanfattning : Human-induced climate change is projected to increase the frequency and magnitude of natural hazard events, posing a growing global threat to lives, livelihoods, and assets. Much past research on disaster risk reduction (DRR) has focused on failures of disaster management, while less attention has been devoted to how DRR has changed or improved over time. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Identification and characterisation of chitin and cellulose synthases in oomycetes : New tools for biochemical studies and structure determination

    Författare :Stefan Klinter; Vincent Bulone; Lauren S. McKee; Mirjam Czjzek; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biochemical characterisation; cellulose synthase; chitin synthase; in vitro activity assay; microtubule-interacting and trafficking domain; nanoparticle; oomycetes; phylogenetic analysis; yeast engineering; biokemisk karakterisering; cellulosasyntas; kitinsyntas; in vitro aktivitetsanalys; mikrotubulus-interagerande och -trafikerande domän; nanopartikel; oomyceter; fylogenetisk analys; jäst proteinteknik; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Sammanfattning : Despite resembling ‘true’ fungi in terms of morphological features, oomycetes form a distinct eukaryotic lineage of filamentous microorganisms that belongs to the stramenopiles, a group of protists also comprising the closely-related brown algae and diatoms. Many oomycetes are devastating pathogens of plants and animals, globally causing significant economic losses in the agriculture and aquaculture industries, and posing considerable environmental damage to natural ecosystems. 4. 4. Global patterns of international fisheries conflict

    Författare :Jessica Spijkers; Henrik Österblom; Matthew Osborne; Tiffany Morrison; Graeme S. Cumming; Geoff Dabelko; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fisheries; conflict; environmental security; social-ecological systems; complex adaptive systems thinking; Sustainability Science; vetenskap om hållbar utveckling;

    Sammanfattning : Are international conflicts over fishery resources a growing security concern? High-profile incidences of conflict, diminishing fishery resources and climate impacts on marine systems have made the international community increasingly wary of fisheries conflict. However, we lack knowledge on conflict incidences over time, as well as the contexts in which the conflicts occur, to assess if fisheries conflict is a growing security threat. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Route attribution of chemical warfare agents : Retrospective classification of unknown threat samples

    Författare :Karin Höjer Holmgren; Johan Dahlén; Crister Åstot; Peter Haglund; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Impurity profiling; Chemical attribution signature; Route sourcing;

    Sammanfattning : Although chemical warfare agents (CWAs) are prohibited under international law, there have been numerous crimes that violates the 1997 Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) during the last decade, especially in the civil war in Syria where sarin, mustard gas and chlorine have all been used. CWAs have also been used in political assassinations and attempts thereof. LÄS MER
