11. Thoracic Aortic Surgery : Epidemiology, Outcomes, and Prevention of Cerebral Complications
Sammanfattning : The mortality of thoracic aortic diseases (mainly aneurysms and dissections) is high, even with surgical treatment. Epidemiology and long-term outcomes are incompletely investigated. Stroke is a major complication contributing to mortality, morbidity, and possibly to reduced quality of life. LÄS MER
12. Postoperative Atrial Fibrillation after Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting : Risk factors and clinical outcome
Sammanfattning : Postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) is a common complication after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), and more knowledge is needed regarding prediction of POAF, the extent of early atrial fibrillation (AF) recurrence after discharge, and the associations between POAF and short and long-term overall and cause-specific mortality and morbidity. After CABG, 31-32% of all patients developed POAF. 13. Metabolic intervention with amino acids in coronary surgery : A clinical study with special reference to effects of glutamate and aspartate on myocardial metabolism
Sammanfattning : Amino acids, particularly glutamate and aspartate, have been suggested to be important for the tolerance to myocardial ischemia and for the recovery of the oxidative metabolism of the heart after ischemia. The objective of the present work was to investigate myocardial metabolism and how it is influenced by intravenous supply of glutamate and aspartate in association with coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). 14. Surgery for aortic stenosis : with special reference to myocardial metabolism, postoperative heart failure and long-term outcome
Sammanfattning : Postoperative heart failure (PHF) remains a major determinant of the outcome after cardiac surgery. However, characteristics of and risk factors for PHF after valve surgery have received little attention. LÄS MER
15. Extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation, selection and candidacy
Sammanfattning : Extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) is an exclusive treatment using extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) in refractory cardiac arrest (CA). Treatment is associated with risk of serious complications, including neurologic impairment and renal failure. Success of treatment is dependent on appropriate selection of candidates. LÄS MER
