6. Studies on Industrial-Scale Thermal Modification of Wood
Sammanfattning : Wood as a raw material is useful for many purposes even though some properties are less than optimal, for example, dimensional stability and durability. These characteristics can however be improved by different treatment methods. LÄS MER
7. Microstructure and Thermal Degradation of PVC with Improved Thermal Stability
Sammanfattning : Although the low thermal stability of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) has been an area of intensive research, the relation between microstructure and degradation behaviour is still not fully understood. This thesis deals with the structure, thermal degradation and modification of ordinary PVC. LÄS MER
8. Polymer Nanocomposites in Thin Film Applications
Sammanfattning : The introduction of a nanoscopic reinforcing phase to a polymer matrix offers great possibilities of obtaining improved properties, enabling applications outside the boundaries of traditional composites. The majority of the work in this thesis has been devoted to polymer/clay nanocomposites in coating applications, using the hydroxyl-functional hyperbranched polyester Boltorn® as matrix and montmorillonite clay as nanofiller. 9. The Effect of Processing Parameters and Alloy Composition on the Microstructure Formation and Quality of DC Cast Aluminium Alloys
Sammanfattning : The objective of this research is to increase the understanding of the solidification behaviour of some industrially important wrought aluminium alloys. The investigation methods range from direct investigations of as-cast ingots to laboratory-scale techniques in which ingot casting is simulated. LÄS MER
10. Characteristics of wood plastic composites based on modified wood : Moisture properties, biological performance and micromorphology
Sammanfattning : Biobased materials made from renewable resources, such as wood, play an important role in the sustainable development of society. One main challenge of biobased building materials is their inherent moisture sensitivity, a major cause for fungal decay, mold growth and dimensional instability, resulting in decreased service life as well as costly maintenance.
