  1. 11. Analysis and development of strategies for magnetic resonance functional neuroimaging

    Författare :Peter Fransson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :neuroimaging; human brain; functional activation; magnetic resonance imaging; cerebral blood oxygenation;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on strategies for oxygenation-sensitive MRI that are designed to measure alterations in brain physiology induced by changes in neuronal activity. In a first study, it was shown that the temporal evolution of BOLD MRI signal changes in response to both brief and sustained visual activation are equally well visible in FLASH and EPI recordings. 2. 12. Drug resistance in acute myeloid leukemia : clinical and experimental studies

    Författare :Bertil Uggla; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The long-term result of chemotherapy in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is poor, even though a majority of AML patients initially respond to chemotherapy and achieve complete remission (CR). Initially resistant disease as well as relapse is a result of resistance to chemotherapy drug resistance. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Physiological demands of competitive elite cross-country skiing

    Författare :Magnus Carlsson; Michail Tonkonogi; Christer Malm; Eva Andersson; Högskolan Dalarna; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Performance capability; maximal oxygen uptake; lactate threshold; lean mass; double poling; power output; maximal speed; sprint skiing; distance skiing.; Hälsa och välfärd; Health and Welfare;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction Researchers have, for decades, contributed to an increased collective understanding of the physiological demands in cross-country skiing; however, almost all of these studies have used either non-elite subjects and/or performances that emulate cross-country skiing. To establish the physiological demands of cross-country skiing, it is important to relate the investigated physiological variables to the competitive performance of elite skiers. LÄS MER

  4. 14. STRENGTH TRAINING AFTER STROKE: EFFECTS ON MUSCLE FUNCTION, GAIT PERFORMANCE AND PERCEIVED PARTICIPATION

    Författare :Ulla-Britt Flansbjer; Geriatrik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Reproducibility; Neurology; Rehabilitation; sceletal; Muscle; Cerebrovascular Accident; Gait; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to evaluate the effects of strength training on muscle function, gait performance and perceived participation in subjects with chronic mild to moderate post-stroke hemiparesis. A main impairment after stroke is reduced muscle strength. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Elite sprinters, ice hockey players, orienteers and marathon runners : isokinetic leg muscle performance in relation to muscle structure and training

    Författare :Christer Johansson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Electromyography; endurance; enzyme histocytochemistry; fatigue; ice hockey; isokinetic; muscle contraction; OBLA; orienteering; running;

    Sammanfattning : In male athletes from different sports, isokinetic knee extensor, and in orienteers also plantar flexor peak torque (PT), contractional work (CW) and integrated surface electromyograms (iEMG) were analysed.Single contraction PT, CW and iEMG in sprinters and marathon runners were significantly correlated to the cross-sectional area (CSA) of m.
