  1. 1. Testosterone, 17β-estradiol and pubertal growth

    Författare :Anna-Karin Albin; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; testosterone; estrogen; pubertal growth; growth hormone treatment;

    Sammanfattning : Background and aims: It is well established that the interaction of sex steroids with the growth hormone (GH)/ insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) axis is of major importance in children for normal pubertal growth. However, detailed understanding is still lacking. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Testosterone and 17beta-oestradiol secretions in children and adolescents. Assay development, levels for comparison and clinical applications

    Författare :Carina Ankarberg-Lindgren; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :17beta-oestradiol; testosterone; sensitive assay; data for comparison; prepuberty; puberty; children; pubertal induction.;

    Sammanfattning : Accurate measurements of 17beta-oestradiol and testosterone are important in clinical settings of pubertal disorders and hormone replacement therapy among children. Most assays for measurement of these steroids are optimised for fertility investigations in adults and are not sensitive enough for quantification in children. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Testosterone Use and Abuse : Methodological Aspects in Forensic Toxicology and Clinical Diagnostics

    Författare :Yvonne Lood; Jeanette Wahlberg; Johan Ahlner; Bertil Ekman; Elisabeth Aardal; Martin Josefsson; Ingemar Thiblin; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Abuse of anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS) is widespread in society and is today a major public health problem, associated with mental and somatic adverse effects and risk behavior, such as use of other illicit drugs and criminality. Testosterone, the most important endogenous male androgen, is therapeutically used in replacement therapy but is also extensively used as a doping agent. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Sex steroids, IGF-I, and vascular morphology from birth to adulthood in individuals born small for gestational age

    Författare :Kerstin Allvin; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; small for gestational age; preterm; sex steroid; estradiol; testosterone; dihydrotestosterone; glucocorticoid; retina; IGF-I;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract Aim: To study whether there is an association between size at birth, sex steroids, IGF-I, and retinal vascular morphology. Patients and methods: Two different cohorts were studied. In paper I, 25 young adult men born small for gestational age (SGA) were compared to 44 young adult men born appropriate for gestational age (AGA). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Reproductive toxicology of endocrine disruptors : effects of cadmium, phthalates and phytoestrogens on testicular steroidogenesis

    Författare :David Gunnarsson; Gunnar Selstam; Gunnar Nordberg; Per Leffler; Henrik Leffers; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Endocrine disruptors; reproductive toxicology; cadmium; phthalates; DEHP; MEHP; phytoestrogens; steroidogenesis; testosterone; Leydig cell; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : A number of investigations during the last two decades describe adverse trends in male reproductive health, which have been proposed to be caused by environmental factors with endocrine disrupting properties. In contrast to many other toxicants, endocrine disruptors often do not show linear dose-response relationships typical of those found in traditional toxicological studies. LÄS MER
