  1. 1. The roads in-between : causeways and polyagentive networks at Ichmul and Yo'okop, Cochuah Region, Mexico

    Författare :Johan Normark; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; agency; architecture; becoming; Bergson; causeway; Cochuah; culture critique; Deleuze; difference; duration; event horizon; evolution; humanocentrism; Ichmul; ideology; in-between; index; materialtiy; Maya; Mexico; multiplicity; neo-materialism; network; polyagency; polyagent; posthumanism; practice; rhizome; road; sakbe; settlement archaeology; technoscience; temporality; Terminal Classic; virutality; Yo okop;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation has two aims: (1) To characterize and abandon the humanocentric archaeology that relies upon quasi-objects and to develop the polyagentive archaeology that relies upon actualizations of the virtual. (2) To exemplify the latter approach by studying how causeways (sakbeob) in the Maya area relate to temporality and materialtiy at, and around, the two neighbouring sites of Ichmul and Yo'okop in the Cochuah region of southeast Yucatan and west-central Quintana Roo in Mexico. 2. 2. Common Knowledge : lowland Maya urban farming at Xuch

    Författare :Christian Isendahl; Luis Alberto Barba Pingarrón; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Archaeology; Ecological settlement archaeology; Maya; urbanism; agriculture; architecture; ceramics; geochemistry; vegetation; soils; archaeoclimatic modelling; Preclassic; Classic; Postclassic; Colonial; Xuch; Puuc; Campeche; Arkeologi; Archaeology subjects; Arkeologiämnen; arkeologi; Archaeology;

    Sammanfattning : During the second half of the first millennium AD, several large urban communities developed in the Puuc region of the northwest Yucatán Peninsula. Investigations of architecture and ceramics at Xuch provide a spatio-chronological framework demonstrating the rapid growth of an urban settlement culminating in the Terminal Classic, and its subsequent decline. 3. 3. GFP as a tool to monitor membrane protein topology and overexpression in Escherichia coli

    Författare :David Drew; Jan-Willem de Gier; Gunnar von Heijne; Bert Poolman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; GFP; membrane protein; topology; overexpression; high-throughput; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Membrane proteins are essential for life, and roughly one-quarter of all open reading frames in sequenced genomes code for membrane proteins. Unfortunately, our understanding of membrane proteins lags behind that of soluble proteins, and is best reflected by the fact that only 0. LÄS MER

  4. 4. One key to two doors : Dual targeting peptides and membrane mimetics

    Författare :Weihua Ye; Lena Mäler; Göran Kalsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; : Dual targeting peptides; protein import; mitochondria and chloroplasts; bicelles; galactolipids; NMR spectroscopy; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Sammanfattning : A targeting peptide at the N-terminus of a precursor protein usually directs the protein synthesized in the cytosol to a specific organelle in the cell. Interestingly, some targeting peptides, so-called dual targeting peptides (dTPs) can target their protein to both mitochondria and chloroplasts. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Functional characterization of cytosolic and mitochondrial thioredoxin reductases

    Författare :Ivan Nalvarte; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Thioredoxin; thioredoxin reductase; reactive oxygen species; mitochondria; differentiation; redox signaling; ubiquinone; cytochrome c; selenium; selenoprotein.;

    Sammanfattning : Mammalian thioredoxin reductases (TrxRs) are homodimeric selenoproteins belonging to the nucleotide oxidoreductase family. They contain a C-terminal penultimate selenocysteine residue, which is kept reduced by the N-terminal redox active site, CVNVGC, of the adjacent subunit. LÄS MER
