1. Large Eddy Simulation of Turbulent Flow and Combustion in HCCI Engines
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with numerical simulations of the turbulent combustion process in Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) engines. An accurate and computationally efficient Large Eddy Simulation (LES) model was developed and used throughout this thesis to investigate the development of in-cylinder turbulence, temperature stratification, onset of auto-ignition, and development of the reaction fronts. 2. Dielectric properties of poly(ethyelene-co-butyl acrylate) filled with Alumina nanoparticles
Sammanfattning : In this work dielectric properties of the poly(ethylene-co-butyl acrylate)filled with alumina nanoparticles are evaluated. These nanocomposite materialswere manufactured at the department of Fibre and Polymer Technology,KTH.This study is limited to the properties of general importance for the AC applications. LÄS MER
3. Magnetic Refrigeration for Near Room-Temperature Applications
Sammanfattning : Refrigeration plays a crucial role in many different sectors and consumes about 17% of the electricity produced globally. This significant energy consumption implies large share of refrigeration in primary energy consumption and other environmental impacts. LÄS MER
4. Durability Aspects of Fast Charging, Mechanical Constraint, and Inhomogeneity in Lithium-Ion Batteries
Sammanfattning : The development of lithium-ion batteries with higher energy and power density, better safety, and lower cost has significantly contributed to the increased market share of electric vehicles (EVs) in the last decade. However, the expectations of end-users of EVs still require a continuous quest for better performance. LÄS MER
5. Complex Phase Behavior in Thermoelectric Mg2Si1-xSnx Alloys and Development of Transient Plane Source Method for Structural Characterization
Sammanfattning : The thermoelectric effect was discovered nearly 200 years ago, but it started to be utilized for waste heat recovery only fairly recently. From an economical point of view, such applications requires a cheap and efficient material, which is able to convert heat energy into electricity. LÄS MER
