  1. 16. Tribology for Greener Combustion Engines : Scuffing in Marine Engines and a Lubricating Boric Acid Fuel Additive

    Författare :Petra Olander; Staffan Jacobson; Roland Larsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Friction; wear; lubrication; energy loss; atmospheric emissions; fuel efficiency; transport.; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot tribomaterial; Engineering Science with specialization in Tribo Materials;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims at increased knowledge in two fields of tribological research; both related to making currently used combustion engines greener. The first field regards the possibilities of using a boric acid fuel additive to increase fuel efficiency. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Tribological Aspects of Pneumatic Clutch Actuators

    Författare :Frida Riddar; Åsa Kassman Rudolphi; Roland Larsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wear; friction; PTFE transfer; anodised aluminium; NBR rubber lip seal; silicone grease; casting; extrusion; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot tribomaterial; Engineering Science with specialization in Tribo Materials;

    Sammanfattning : A clutch actuator is used in a vehicle to transmit movement and force from the clutch pedal to the release bearing of the clutch. A pneumatic clutch actuator consists of an anodised aluminium cylinder, inside of which a piston, with a rubber lip seal and a PTFE guiding ring, slides. The system is lubricated with silicone grease before assembly. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Formation and Function of Low-Friction Tribofilms

    Författare :Harald Skiöld Nyberg; Staffan Jacobson; Allan Matthews; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; tribology; tribofilm; PVD; coating; low-friction; tungsten disulphide; transition metal dichalcogenide; tribochemistry; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot tribomaterial; Engineering Science with specialization in Tribo Materials;

    Sammanfattning : The use of low-friction coatings on machine elements is steadily increasing, and they are expected to play an important role in the reduction of fuel consumption of future motorized vehicles. Many low-friction coatings function by transformation of the outermost coating layer into tribofilms, which then cover the coating surface and its counter surface. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Alternative binder hardmetals for steel turning

    Författare :Lisa Toller; Susanne Norgren; Hans-Olof Andrén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; hardmetal; cemented carbide; alternative binder; steel turning; scratch testing; plastic deformation; EBSD; transformation toughening; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot tribomaterial; Engineering Science with specialization in Tribo Materials;

    Sammanfattning : The goal of this work is to understand how the wear and deformation mechanisms of hardmetalinserts change when the cobalt binder phase is replaced with a dierent metal or analloy. The focus is on inserts for steel turning. The work presented in this licentiate thesisconsists of the rst steps. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Insights into wear and deformation of alternative binder hardmetals

    Författare :Lisa Toller-Nordström; Susanne Norgren; Ben Britton; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :hardmetal; cemented carbide; alternative binders; steel turning; electron microscopy; electron diffraction; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot tribomaterial; Engineering Science with specialization in Tribo Materials;

    Sammanfattning : This work presents new insights into how hardmetals with alternative binders as well as cobalt based references react to wear and deformation. The main focus has been on hardmetals for steel turning, but also on studying certain fundamental properties of the new binder materials. LÄS MER
