  1. 1. Mechanical optimization of orthopaedic bone screw constructs

    Författare :Yijun Zhou; Cecilia Persson; Benedikt Helgason; Philip Procter; Richie Gill; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Trabecular bone; screw implant; explicit finite element modelling; computed tomography; numerical optimization; neural network; hydrogel; Engineering Science with specialization in Biomedical Engineering; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot medicinsk teknik;

    Sammanfattning : Orthopaedic screw implants are crucial in surgical procedures for bone structures, with a longstanding issue being screw loosening. Improving screw stability requires an enhanced understanding of the bone-implant interactions and associated failure mechanisms. This knowledge can be used to optimize screw designs. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Calcium phosphate cements (CPCs) are used as bone void fillers and as complements to hardware in fracture fixation. The aim of this thesis was to investigate the possibilities and limitations of the CPCs’ mechanical properties, and find out if these ceramic bone cements can carry application-specific loads, alone or as part of a construct. 4. 4. Microfluidics for High-Pressure Inertial Focusing : Focusing, Separation and Concentration of Micro and Sub-micron Particles

    Författare :Javier Cruz; Klas Hjort; Aman Russom; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Microsystems; Microfluidics; Inertial Focusing; Particle Manipulation; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot mikrosystemteknik; Engineering Science with specialization in Microsystems Technology;

    Sammanfattning : The birth of microsystems set the ground for technologies never imagined before, for it is not only the small size what characterizes the miniaturized systems, but unique phenomena arise in the micro scale. This thesis relates to one such unique phenomenon, inertial focusing, a phenomenon that occurs in microfluidic systems if very special conditions are met and that allows for fine manipulation of particles in fluid samples. 5. 5. Evaluation of biomedical microwave sensors : Microwave sensors as muscle quality discriminators in laboratory and pilot clinical trial settings

    Författare :Viktor Mattsson; Robin Augustine; Mauricio Perez; Roger Karlsson; Ayca Özcelikkale; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Microwave sensors; Sarcopenia; Muscle quality assessment; Biomedical applications; Tissue dielectric properties; Data-driven modelling; Clinical trials; EM Simulations; Phantom experiments; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot elektronik; Engineering Science with specialization in Electronics;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis the primary focus is on the evaluation of biomedical microwave sensor to be used in the muscle analyzer system. Lower muscle quality is one indicator that a patient can have sarcopenia. Therefore the muscle analyzer system can be a tool used in screening for sarcopenia. LÄS MER
