21. InAS Quantum Dots for Laser Applications and Pedogogical, Gender, and Multicultural Aspects in Engineering Education
Sammanfattning : This thesis builds on new cross-disciplinary research between engineering and educational sciences. Recently, two other theses that combine research in physics and education (Åke Ingerman, 2002, and Tom Adawi, 2002) have been completed in Sweden. This thesis consolidates a trend that can benefit both disciplines. LÄS MER
22. Novel Materials and Technologies for IR Optoelectronic Applications
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on novel III-V materials (InAs/GaSb type-II superlattices, T2SL, and dilute bismides) and metamorphic growth techniques for infrared optoelectronics all of which may find wide spread applications in telecommunication, energy harvesting and saving, sensing and imaging. Mid-wavelength infrared (MWIR) and long-wavelength infrared (LWIR) photodetectors at the atmospheric windows of 3-5 and 8-12 µm, respectively, are currently dominated by HgCdTe and quantum well infrared photodetectors. 23. VCSEL Cavity Engineering for High Speed Modulation and Silicon Photonics Integration
Sammanfattning : The GaAs-based vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) is the standard light source in today's optical interconnects, due to its energy efficiency, low cost, and high speed already at low drive currents. The latest commercial VCSELs operate at data rates of up to 28 Gb/s, but it is expected that higher speeds will be required in the near future. LÄS MER
24. Optical spectroscopy of InGaAs quantum dots
Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis deals with optical studies of semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) in the InGaAs material system. It is shown that for self-assembled InAs QDs, the interaction with the surrounding GaAs barrier and the InAs wetting layer (WL) in particular, has a very large impact on their optical properties. 25. Wafer-level processing of ultralow-loss Si3N4
Sammanfattning : Photonic integrated circuits (PICs) are devices fabricated on a planar wafer that allow light generation, processing, and detection. Photonic integration brings important advantages for scaling up the complexity and functionality of photonic systems and facilitates their mass deployment in areas where large volumes and compact solutions are needed, e.
