1. Iodine status and iodine pool an a small community in western Sweden
Sammanfattning : Iodine is essential in the synthesis of the vital hormones of the thyroid gland. On a worldwide basis, iodine deficiency is the global most important cause of thyroid disease. LÄS MER
2. Central and Peripheral Neuroendocrine Factors in Cancer-Associated Anorexia and Cachexia
Sammanfattning : Cancer anorexia-cachexia syndrome (CACS) develops in response to tumor-host biochemical interactions. A loss of appetite (anorexia) and increased metabolism results in a progressive wasting of adipose and skeletal muscle tissues (cachexia). LÄS MER
3. Presence of extrathyroidal TSH-receptor, with special reference to its role in neonatal regulation of lipolysis
Sammanfattning : At birth, the newborn child must utilize stored energy until lactation is established. The main source of energy is fat - that is, triglycerides stored in the white adipose tissue. This study deals with hormonal regulation of lipolysis in the neonatal period. LÄS MER
4. Thyroid function and breast cancer. Risk and clinical outcome in relation to thyroid hormones (free T3/T4), TSH, TPO-Antibodies and genetic variants
Sammanfattning : Thyroid hormone level has been positively associatedwith breast cancer cell proliferation andtumour growth in experimental studies. However, previous observational studies have been contradictoryon the relationship between thyroidfunction and breast cancer. Age is a known riskfactor for breast cancer but its role as a prognosticfactor is less clear. LÄS MER
5. The influence of status epilepticus on adeno-pituitary hormone secretion in man : with special reference to prolactin
Sammanfattning : Epileptic seizures as well as antiepileptic drugs (AED) may interfere with the hypothalamic pituitary axis (HPA) and have neuroendocrine effects. A transient increase of prolactin (PRL) and cortisol in serum after generalised tonic-clonic or complex partial seizures has been one of the most consistent findings, although absences and myoclonic seizures, as well as seizures of very short duration, do not seem to affect PRL levels.
