    Sammanfattning : Accurate mass values have wide-ranging applications in physics and metrology, allowing, for example, to test quantum electrodynamics and fundamental symmetries, to determine fundamental constants, and to establish weight standards. This thesis describes the new high-precision double-Penning trap mass spectrometer SMILETRAP II which aims at relative uncertainties in the mass determination of 10-10 and below. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : The focus of this study is the vicious circle of poverty and ill-health. The case is injuries but it could have been any lasting and severe disease. Poverty and health have very close links to economic development and to how health care is financed. Out-of-pocket payment seems to increase the risk of poverty while prepaid health care reduces it.     Sammanfattning : As a countermeasure to global warming, vehicles with low carbon emissions are being investigated by promoting lean-burn engines and high combustion efficiencies. However, one limitation to the increasing use of these engines is the need to develop corresponding catalytic systems for controlling the nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions in their lean exhaust.     Sammanfattning : This thesis contains experimental work that was performed at two state-of-the art devices for electron-ion collision physics, at a heavy-ion storage ring and at an Electron Beam Ion Trap. As a result, absolute recombination rate coefficients for H-like Si, He-like Si, Be-like Si, and Na-like Si, as well as Be-like Ne, Na-like S and Na-like Ar are reported over a wide energy range from μeV to keV.
