  1. 1. Systems Biology of Yeast Lipid Metabolism

    Författare :Pramote Chumnanpuen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Transcriptome; Integrated analysis; Lipidome.; Inositol-choline; Opi1; Yeast lipid metabolism; high throughput techniques; Ino4; TORC1; Snf1; Ino2;

    Sammanfattning : Lipid metabolism plays an important role in the development of many different life-style related diseases, such as type 2 diabetes and atherosclerosis, and understanding the molecular mechanisms behind regulation of lipid biosynthesis and degradation may lead to development of new therapies. In this project we undertook a global study of lipid metabolism in the eukaryotic model organism Saccharomyces cerevisiae. LÄS MER

  2. 2. DNA checkpoint override and redox signaling in Schizosaccharomyces pombe

    Författare :Johanna J Sjölander; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Caffeine; Cell cycle; Checkpoint; Cdc25; Wee1; TORC1; FHIT; Proliferation; Aph1; Redox; Hypoxia; H2O2; Cysteine; Thiol; Allosteric; MAPK; Sty1; MAPKK; Wis1;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis covers intracellular stress signaling through genotoxic stress, overriding of checkpoint control, as well as cellular redox status in hypoxic and oxidative stress Papers I and II: Caffeine has been shown to override cell cycle checkpoints in humans as well as in the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe. Understanding of the mechanism may aid in the development of compounds with similar overriding mechanisms for sensitization in cancer therapy. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Global Regulation of Snf1 in Saccharomyces cerevisiae: A case study of experimental systems biology

    Författare :Jie Zhang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; AMP-activated protein kinase AMPK ; glucose derepression; energy homeostasis; target of rapamycin complex 1 TORC1 ; catabolite repression; Snf1;

    Sammanfattning : Cells commonly face environmental changes and have evolved various regulatory mechanisms to adjust their metabolism accordingly. One such key regulator in S. cerevisiae is the Snf1 kinase, which belongs to the conserved AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) family in all eukaryotes. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Lipid Metabolism and Insulin Signalling in Adipocytes : enhanced autophagy in type 2 diabetes

    Författare :Anita Öst; Peter Strålfors; Johanna Gustavsson Dahlberg; Anna Krook; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Energy storage in the adipose tissue, to an extent leading to obesity, is associated with local as well assystemic insulin resistance. When insulin-producing beta-cells in the pancreas gradually fail tocompensate, plasma levels of glucose rise and overt type 2 diabetes is diagnosed. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Studies of Budding Yeast Transcription Factors Acting Downstream of Nutrient Signaling Pathways

    Författare :Niklas Nordberg; Hans Ronne; Anders Blomberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Budding yeast; nutrient signaling; glucose repression; aging; caloric restriction; JmjC; histone demethylation; Mig1; Mig2; Mig3; Gis1; Rph1; Molekylär genetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : Being able to respond to extracellular cues such as nutrients and growth factors is of vital importance to all living cells. Pathways have therefore evolved which can sense the extracellular status, transmit a signal through the cell and affect gene expression, which ultimately enables adaptation. LÄS MER
