16. Kinins : important regulators in inflammation induced bone resorption
Sammanfattning : Inflammatory processes in, or in close vicinity of, the skeleton often lead to loss of bone tissue. Different cytokines have been shown to be involved as stimulators of inflammatory induced osteoclastic bone resorption. LÄS MER
17. Experimental bacterial meningitis : studies on immunopathogenesis and immunoregulation
Sammanfattning : Bacterial meningitis is an inflammatory disease of the central nervous system (CNS) which occurs when bacteria gain entry to the subarachnoid space (SAS). Bacterial replication or Iysis leads to the exposure of cell components. LÄS MER
18. Effects of Biomechanical Stress on Gene Regulation in Vascular Cells
Sammanfattning : The vascular vessel wall is constantly exposed to biomechanical forces, such as shear and tensile stress. Biomechanical forces are important for several physiological and pathological processes and have been shown to regulate a number of fundamental vascular functions, such as vascular tone and remodeling processes. 19. Cyclic Nucleotide Phosphodiesterase 3B: Regulation in rat adipocytes and 3T3-L1 cells
Sammanfattning : Insulin stimulation of rat adipocytes results in phosphorylation and activation of the cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase 3B (PDE3B), a key enzyme in the antilipolytic signalling pathway of this hormone. In this thesis, the site phosphorylated in PDE3B upon stimulation of rat adipocytes with insulin and/or the beta-adrenergic agonist, isoproterenol is identified. LÄS MER
20. Human intestinal epithelial cells in innate immunity : interactions with normal microbiota and pathogenic bacteria
Sammanfattning : Rod-shaped bacteria were previously shown to be associated with the small intestinal epithelium of children with celiac disease (CD). Using culture-dependent and independent methods, we characterized the microbiota of small intestine in children with CD and controls. The normal microbiota constitutes an unique organ-specific biofilm. LÄS MER
