21. Regulation of inflammasomes by host- and pathogen-derived factors
Sammanfattning : The term inflammasome was first coined in 2002 and describes an intracellular multiprotein complex mediating inflammation by inducing the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1β and IL-18) and a lytic form of cell death called pyroptosis. Since then, an impressive amount of research has revealed many details about the mechanisms of inflammasome activation as well as the functional relevance of inflammasome activation in different contexts. 22. Development of multi-cellular human lung models to study inflammatory mechanisms and cell-cell interactions
Sammanfattning : It is well known that exposure to toxicants in the environment is associated with a wide range of health effects. The airway epithelium which forms the first line of defense, plays critical roles in the defence against inhaled particles, pathogens and toxic agents. LÄS MER
23. The role and mechanism of ubiquitin system in innate immune regulation
Sammanfattning : Pattern-recognition receptors (PRRs) include the cell surface or endosomal membrane localized Toll-like receptors (TLRs) and the cytoplasmic PRRs such as RIG-I-like receptors (RLRs), NOD-like receptors (NLRs) and cytoplasmic DNA receptors (CDRs). Triggering of PRRs culminates in the transcriptional induction of pro-inflammatory cytokines and type I interferons (IFNs) that coordinate protection against pathogens but require tight control to avert inflammatory diseases. 24. Development of novel DNA vaccine and immunotherapeutic approaches
Sammanfattning : Many potential DNA vaccination and immunotherapeutic strategies has been explored in both animal models and human settings in recent years. However, the failure of efficient and safe method development suggests that it is time to rethink, since more innovative approaches are needed for better control of infection and immunotherapy. 25. Macrophages : as central inflammatory mediators and as targets for therapeutic interventions
Sammanfattning : Macrophages (Mphis) are important cellular players in autoimmune pathogenesis, being the most numerous cells infiltrating sites of inflammation and causing much of the associated tissue damage. Apart from these proinflammatory actions, Mphis also have distinct roles in disease resolution, and effective therapeutic targeting of Mphi-expressed molecules requires understanding of the interplay between different Mphi activators and the kinetics of the induced responses.
