1. Caveolae associated proteins and how they effect caveolae dynamics
Sammanfattning : Caveolae are a type of invaginated membrane domain that has been shown to be involved in several disease states, including lipodystrophy, muscular dystrophies and cancer. Several of these diseases are caused by the lack of caveolae or caveolae-related signaling deficiencies in the tissues in which the caveolar domain are abundant such as lung, adipose, muscle and their related endothelial cells. 2. DNA-Controlled Lipid-Membrane Fusion
Sammanfattning : Membrane fusion is essential for nerve-cell communication, for protein transport between cell organelles and the cell-membrane and for enabling the merger between virus and host membranes during virus infection. We have demonstrated that short DNA oligonucleotides, membrane-attached via CH in an orientation that mimics the overall zipperlike architecture of fusion-inducing proteins, induce fusion of both suspended vesicles and vesicles site-specifically tethered to SLBs. 3. Lipid Vesicle Fusion: Investigation, Generation and Manipulation of Cell-Membrane Mimics
Sammanfattning : Membrane fusion is essential for nerve-cell communication, for protein transport between cell organelles and the cell-membrane and for enabling the merger between virus and host membranes during virus infection. In this work, cell-membrane mimics were constructed and evaluated as models for studies of the membrane-fusion process. LÄS MER
4. Fabrication, development and characterization of a waveguide microscopy device for biological applications
Sammanfattning : Our understanding of biological systems has advanced significantly thanks to the development of microscopy methods and suitable biological assays. Surface based methods have increasingly gained interest thanks to their superior sensitivity and ease of use. LÄS MER
5. Development of novel bioanalytical assays with single-molecule readout for biomarker detection and drug candidate characterization
Sammanfattning : Bioanalytical assays with single-molecule readout for studying molecular interactions have in the past decades received increasing attention. The high sensitivity often offered by this readout scheme has for example enabled ultra-sensitive analyte detection, having important implications for monitoring early disease progression and the effects of drug treatment.
