  1. 1. Molecular mechanisms for transcription in mammalian mitochondria

    Författare :Martina Gaspari; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :mitochondria; oxidative phosphorylation; mtDNA; transcription; TFAM; TFB1M TFB2M; POLRMT; promoter recognition; CSB II;

    Sammanfattning : The circular double stranded mitochondrial genome (mtDNA), which is about 16,600 bp in humans and 16,300 bp in mice, encodes 13 of the -90 different proteins present in the respiratory chain of mammalian mitochondria. The remaining components of the respiratory chain are encoded by nuclear genes and imported into the mitochondrial network. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Exercise-induced mitochondrial biogenesis : with special reference to mitochondrial transcription factors and lipin-1

    Författare :Susanna E Wallman Appel; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Mitochondrial biogenesis is one prominent adaptation to endurance training in skeletal muscle tissue. An increased mitochondrial density of the muscle fibres contributes to an enhanced aerobic capacity and thereby to improved fatigue-resistance. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Linking transcription to DNA replication in mammalian mitochondria

    Författare :Yonghong Shi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Most of the adenosine phosphate (ATP) used to drive cellular processes is produced through oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS). At the heart of this process is the electron transport chain, which contains a number of protein complexes located in the inner membrane of mitochondria. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Regulation of mitochondrial transcription and mtDNA copy number in mammals

    Författare :Anja Rantanen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :mtDNA; transcription factor; evolution; transmission; inheritance; expression; mitochondria; transgenic; mapping; testis-specific;

    Sammanfattning : Functional mitochondria are essential for wellbeing of the cell and the whole organism. Gene expression from the mitochondrial genome (mtDNA) is indispensable for oxidative phosphorylation, but also for the replication of mtDNA, as the replication primers are processed from mtDNA transcripts. 5. 5. Exercise and regulation of mitochondrial biogenesis factors in human skeletal muscle

    Författare :Jessica Norrbom; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Regular physical activity has many positive implications on health and performance, such as lowered risk for premature death, improved glucose metabolism and cardiovascular function as well as endurance capacity. Even a single bout of exercise is enough stimulus to change expression of many skeletal muscle genes. LÄS MER
