1. Staphylococcal enterotoxin H - structure and function of a superantigen
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to characterise the biological functions of the superantigen staphylococcal enterotoxin H (SEH). Superantigens are highly immunostimulatory proteins, which crosslink T cells and antigen presenting cells (APCs). LÄS MER
2. Thymic studies. Investigations into the effects of childhood thymectomy, and characterization of thymic B cells and Hassall's corpuscles
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the human thymus, a primary lymphoid organ responsible for the maturation of T cells. Progenitors arrive from the bone marrow and start to randomly assemble their T cell receptor (TCR) followed by a thorough selection process in which the TCR is tested for functionality and autoreactivity. 3. Interplay between superantigens and immunoreceptors
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the interactions between superantigens and their receptors. Superantigens are proteins that are secreted by various bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes. Superantigens are able to cross-link T cells and antigen presenting cells by binding to the T cell receptor (TCR) and MHC class II. LÄS MER
4. Dysregulated mucosal immune responses in microscopic colitis patients
Sammanfattning : Microscopic colitis (MC), comprising collagenous colitis (CC) and lymphocytic colitis (LC) is a common cause of chronic watery diarrhea. The diagnosis relies on typical histopathological changes observed upon microscopic examination. LÄS MER
5. Regulation of activation of NF-κB by Calmodulin in T-lymphocytes
Sammanfattning : Nuclear factor kappa B (NF-kB) is a widely expressed family of transcription factors that are involved in a diverse number of processes. These include inflammation or differentiation, survival or apoptosis, and proliferation or cell cycle arrest. LÄS MER
