1. B cell deviations and type 1 diabetes in the NOD mouse
Sammanfattning : Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a chronic autoimmune disease in which the insulin producing β-cells in the pancreatic islets of Langerhans are selectively attacked by the immune system. The β-cells are destroyed resulting in a reduced or eliminated insulin production, which in turn lead to a high blood glucose level. LÄS MER
2. Anomalies in humoral immunity in the NOD mouse : contribution to the progression of type 1 diabetes
Sammanfattning : The non-obese diabetic (NOD) mouse is widely used model Type 1 diabetes (T1D), a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by destruction of the insulin producing β cells in the islets of Langerhans by immune cells. The classical symptoms include increased glucose levels in urine and blood, frequent urination and enhanced thirst. LÄS MER
3. Genetics of primary immunodeficiency diseases
Sammanfattning : Selective IgA deficiency (IgAD) (serum IgA concentration of T), which abolished expression of the TACI molecule. In addition, we found the previously recognized C104R and C172Y mutations in a heterozygous form in 2 patients with CVID and one, novel, heterozygous P42T mutation. LÄS MER
4. B-cell survival factors in multiple sclerosis and myasthenia gravis
Sammanfattning : Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, progressive neurological disease in which death of myelin-producing oligodendrocytes and axonal damage are prominent pathological features. The cause of MS is unknown but genetic and environmental factors have been proposed to be important. LÄS MER
5. Blood pressure in acute ischaemic stroke : blood pressure and stress in the acute phase of stroke and influence of initial blood pressure on stroke-outcome
Sammanfattning : Background and objectives: Most patients (70-80%) with acute ischaemic or haemorrhagic stroke exhibit a high systemic blood pressure (BP) on admission to hospital even in the absence of a history of hypertension (=50%). In matched-control patients admitted to hospital for other acute diseases the proportion of high BP is only 36%. LÄS MER
