  1. 16. Insulin-like growth factor-I deficiency, insulin sensitivity, and glucose metabolism

    Författare :Klas Ekström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : In children and adolescents, growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) act in concert to stimulate linear growth; however, the effects on glucose metabolism are in opposition. GH increases insulin resistance by lipolysis. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Glucagon Counter-Regulation to Hypoglycemia During Incretin-Based Therapy

    Författare :Johan Farngren; Lund Medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Incretin; DPP-4; GLP-1; Glucagon; Hypoglycemia; Diabetes;

    Sammanfattning : Incretin-based therapy is associated with low risk of hypoglycemia in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) possibly due to its glucose-dependency in stimulating insulin secretion and a sustained glucagon response during hypoglycemia. This is of special relevance when it is combined with insulin or given to elderly patients since both insulin therapy and high age are associated with impaired glucagon counter-regulation. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Perioperative acute kidney injury : risk factors and outcomes

    Författare :Daniel Hertzberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is defined as a sudden decrease in renal filtration function. It is common among critically ill patients and patients undergoing major surgery, especially cardiac surgery. AKI is defined by either an elevated serum creatinine (SCr) concentration or a decrease in urine production. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Peripheral nerve function : metabolic features, clinical assessment, and heat shock protein 27

    Författare :Kaveh Pourhamidi; Olov Rolandsson; Lars B Dahlin; Svein-Ivar Mellgren; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Peripheral neuropathy is a common complication among patients with diabetes mellitus, but whether peripheral neuropathy is present in individuals with impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) is debatable. In order to identify and diagnose peripheral neuropathy correctly, it is important to evaluate diagnostic tools that can be implemented in routine health care to assess both large and small nerve fibre function. 5. 20. Bone disease and diabetes mellitus

    Författare :Anna Ugarph-Morawski; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Diabetes Mellitus (DM) and Osteoporosis (OP) frequently co-exist with advanced age and imply large health challenges worldwide. The last decades there has been a growing interest regarding fracture risk in DM. Currently used screening methods (Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA) and FRAX) underestimate fracture risk in diabetes patients. LÄS MER
