  1. 1. Cholesterol in T cells : homeostasis, plasma membrane organization and signaling

    Författare :Saleemulla Mahammad; Ingela Parmryd; Thomas Harder; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plasma membrane; T cells; Cholesterol; Lipid rafts; Membrane organization; Cholesterol homeostasis; cholesteryl esters; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Cell Biology; cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The plasma membrane of eukaryotic cells contains cholesterol and glycosphingolipids enriched nanodomains known as lipid rafts; which are believed to exist in a liquid ordered (lo) state. Methyl-beta-cyclodextrin (MBCD) is used to deplete cellular cholesterol and a widespread assumption is that MBCD preferentially targets cholesterol in lipid rafts. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Unconventional T cells in colon adenocarcinomas

    Författare :William Rodin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Unconventional T cells; MAIT cells; γδ T cells; Colorectal cancer; Tumour immunity;

    Sammanfattning : Many factors influence the initiation and growth of tumours. The infiltration and activity of immune cells in the tumour microenvironment are widely recognised as key factors affecting the clinical outcome of cancer. LÄS MER

  3. 3. T cells in atherogenesis

    Författare :Anna-Karin L Robertson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :atherosclerosis; T cells; transforming growth factor-beta; CD4; low-density lipoproteins; Th1 Th2; hypercholesterolemia;

    Sammanfattning : The work of this thesis aims to answer the following questions: (1) Which role do CD4+ cells play in atherosclerosis? (2) Is the expression of CD4 essential for the athero-protective effect mediated by immunization with oxidized LDL by adjuvant? (3) How does the antigenspecific T cell response to oxidized LDL influence lesion development? (4) Is there a general shift to Th2 responses in severe hypercholesterolemia? and finally (5) Which role does transforming growth factor-B (TGF-B)-signaling in T cells play in atherogenesis? ApoE-/-CD4-/- mice were used to study the effect of CD4 deficiency in atherosclerosis. The development of atherosclerosis was decreased with attenuated inflammation in apoE-/- mice lacking CD4+ cells compared to immunocompetent apoE-/-. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The immortalization process of T cells : with focus on the regulation of telomere length and telomerase activity

    Författare :Sofie Degerman; Göran Roos; John Sedivy; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :immortalization; senescence; T cells; Nijmegen breakage syndrome; telomere; telomerase; hTERT; generic aberrations; methylation; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Pathology; patologi;

    Sammanfattning : Cellular immortalization is a major hallmark of cancer and is a multi-step process that requires numerous cell-type specific changes, including inactivation of control mechanisms and stabilization of telomere length. The telomeres at the chromosome ends are essential for genomic stability, and limit the growth potential of most cells. LÄS MER

  5. 5. T-cell responses to Helicobacter pylori in humans and a possible role of regulatory T cells

    Författare :Anna Lundgren; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Helicobacter pylori; mucosal immunology; stomach; duodenum; asymptomatic; duodenal ulcer; gastric adenocarcinoma; T cells; regulatory T cells; dendritic cells; T-cell recruitment;

    Sammanfattning : Helicobacter pylori colonize the stomach and areas of gastric metaplasia in the duodenum. The bacteria induce both local and systemic immune responses, but despite this, the infection normally persists for life and causes chronic gastritis in all infected subjects and peptic ulcers or gastric cancer in 10-20% of infected individuals.
