  1. 1. Molecular analysis of Streptococcus pyogenes and its interactions with the human host

    Författare :Andreas Berge; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; complement activation; fibrinogen; IgG; M protein; C5a peptidase; streptococcal cysteine proteinase; streptokinase; t-PA; Streptococcus pyogenes; plasminogen; C1q; insertional sequence.; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Streptococcus pyogenes causes infections only in humans, from trivial tonsillitis to life-threatening conditions. One of its most important virulence factors is the M-like protein family conferring resistance to phagocytosis to the bacterium. The M-like proteins are surface exposed rod-like molecules attached to the cell wall. Each strain of S. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Cyclic nucleotide signalling systems in vascular smooth muscle cells and immune system cells with special reference to phosphodiesterases PDE3 and PDE4

    Författare :Dag Ekholm; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; HTLV-I; multiple sclerosis; proliferation; phosphorylation; T-lymphocytes; vascular smooth muscle; cloning; protein kinase A; cGMP; cAMP; PDE4; Phosphodiesterase; PDE3; cilostamide; rolipram; Histology; cytochemistry; histochemistry; tissue culture; Histologi; cytokemi; histokemi; vävnadskultur;

    Sammanfattning : The cyclic nucleotide signalling systems are important in vascular smooth muscle and in the immune system, and are of interest from a pharmacological point of view. Drugs which interfere with the cyclic nucleotide levels have profound effects on heart, blood vessels and airways and have actual or potential use in several important diseases, such as heart failure, hypertension, arteriosclerosis, asthma and autoimmune diseases. 3. 3. Impact of different interventions on cardiovascular risk factors

    Författare :Marta Vergara; Fredrik Nyström; Carl Johan Östgren; Anna Krook; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Resistance training; Protein; Fast-food; Blueberries; Exercise; Glucose; Running; Cholesterol; Troponin T; Insulin sensitivity; Brown adipose tissue; Basal methabolic rate; Cold exposure; Quality of life; Primary health care; Diabetes mellitus type 2; MACE; Prospective studies; Risk factors; Cardiovascular diseases;

    Sammanfattning : Obesity and related complications such as diabetes mellitus type 2 (T2DM) and cardiovascular events, are a growing major health problem worldwide. Achieving a negative energy balance by increasing physical activity in combination with reduced caloric intake, is the most common approach in weight reduction strategies, something that is difficult to maintain in the long term. 4. 4. Modeling of new particle formation and growth in the atmospheric boundary layer

    Författare :Emilie Öström; Centrum för miljö- och klimatvetenskap (CEC); []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; New particle formation; Secondary organic aerosols; Process-based modeling; Climate;

    Sammanfattning : Atmospheric aerosols affect climate, but to what degree still remains one of the largest uncertainties in global climate models. To improve the representation of aerosols in future climate models we need a greater understanding of aerosol processes. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Behaviour of Pine Sawflies in Relation to Pheromone-Based Pest Management

    Författare :Fredrik Östrand; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Animal ecology; effective sampling area; mark-release-recapture; climate; longevity; sampling range; Symphyta; Hymenoptera; monitoring; dispersal; polyandry; mating disruption; integrated pest management; behaviour; sex pheromone; Neodiprion sertifer; Diprionidae; Djurekologi; Zoology; Zoologi; Silviculture; forestry; forestry technology; Skogsvetenskap; skogsbruk; skogsteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Pine sawflies (Hymenoptera: Diprionidae) are severe pine defoliators. This thesis investigated sawfly behaviour related to the use of pheromones in integrated pest management, including monitoring with pheromone traps and mating disruption. LÄS MER
