1. Finite Element Modelling of Fluid-Structure Interaction
Sammanfattning : The dynamic interaction between non-viscid, compressible fluid and an elastic structure is studied. Finte element formulations, using the weighted residual method, are derived. Different primary variables in the fluid domain are used and different source functions are considered. LÄS MER
2. Structure-aided design of antiviral drugs : Application of the method on HIV-1 protease and SIV reverse transcriptase
Sammanfattning : Many efforts have been made to control the AIDS epidemic. Extensive studies have been done on the biology, biochemistry, and structural biology of HIV in the search for antiviral drugs. The viral-encoded enzymes reverse transcriptase and protease have been main targets for drug design. LÄS MER
3. Twist-Symmetric Periodic Structures : Properties and Applications
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, periodic structures with higher symmetries symmetries are discussed. The main focus of the thesis is on twist symmetries. Importantly, the attractive properties of twist symmetries for the control of electromagnetic wave propagation are demonstrated. LÄS MER
4. Skew-symmetric matrix pencils : stratification theory and tools
Sammanfattning : Investigating the properties, explaining, and predicting the behaviour of a physical system described by a system (matrix) pencil often require the understanding of how canonical structure information of the system pencil may change, e.g., how eigenvalues coalesce or split apart, due to perturbations in the matrix pencil elements. 5. Cyclic sulfamides as HIV-1 protease inhibitors : Synthesis, X-ray structure analysis and structure-activity relationship
Sammanfattning : Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is the causative agent of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). Inhibition of HIV-1 protease leads to immature and non-infectious viral particles. The synthesis of a number of cyclic HIV-1 protease inhibitors and the subsequent evaluation in an enzyme assay is presented in this thesis. LÄS MER
