22. The temporomandibular joint : Tomopraphic and CT assesment of its bone demarcations with reference to adjacent organs
Sammanfattning : The wall of the temporal bone separating the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) from surroundings organs, can be very thin and also have development defects. Distortion effects in the radiographic reproduction of these bone walls can result in misinterpretations when exanimating suspected pathologic changes in the region. LÄS MER
23. Cardiac effects of non-adrenergic inotropic drugs : clinical and experimental studies
Sammanfattning : Background: Myocardial failure and dysfunction is not uncommon during critical illness and following cardiac surgery. For optimal treatment, a better understanding of the effects of inotropic drugs is needed. In this thesis, two non-adrenergic mediated inotropes, milrinone and levosimendan were studied in different models of myocardial dysfunction. LÄS MER
24. Lung function and prevalence trends in asthma and COPD
Sammanfattning : Background: Asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are common obstructive airway diseases with a substantial burden in terms of morbidity, mortality and costs. Smoking is the single most important risk factor for COPD, and is associated with incident asthma. LÄS MER
25. Cervical cancer prevention : studies on outcome of cervical screening and on management of abnormal cytology findings
Sammanfattning : Background Screening by cytology has been highly effective in reducing the incidence and mortality from squamous invasive cervical cancer (ICC), but the effectiveness is less established regarding non-squamous ICC and regarding women above screening ages and below 30 years of age. Cervical cancer still occurs despite the presence of an organised screening programme. LÄS MER
