  1. 1. Popliteal Artery Aneurysm : Epidemiology, Surgical Management and Outcome

    Författare :Hans Ravn; Martin Björck; Anders Wanhainen; Torben V Schroeder; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Surgery; popliteal artery aneurysm; thrombolytic therapy; acute ischemia; surgical technique; long-term outcome; surveillance; Kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Even if popliteal artery aneurysm (PAA) is the most common peripheral aneurysm, no single surgeon or institution has enough patients to study this disease with appropriate scientific methods, and no population-based investigation exists. PAA epidemiology, treatment, management, and outcome were studied in a population-based study of 571 patients (717 legs) primarily operated on for PAAs and 100 episodes of preoperative thrombolysis in Sweden between 1987 and 2002. 2. 2. Groin hernia surgery : studies on anaesthesia and surgical technique

    Författare :Pär Nordin; Leif Israelsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The modem era of groin hernia surgery began with Eduardo Bassini who in the late 19th century, developed the first modem anatomically based hernia repair. Surgical technique, anaesthesia, suture and biomaterials have been matters of discussion ever since. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Microdialysis has recently developed from a laboratory research method of animals to a useful clinical tool to evaluate parameters suggesting tissue ischemia. It is now used in neurosurgery, plastic surgery and liver transplantation. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Energy based surgical instruments : With particular focus on collateral thermal injury

    Författare :Johan Carlander; Kenth Johansson; Leif Bergkvist; Oliver Gimm; Martin Almquist; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Iatrogenic post-operative nerve dysfunction is a significant problem in many areas of surgery and can be caused by collateral thermal injury from activation of energy based surgical devices (EBD).The aims of this thesis were to: create an animal model in order to compare mono- and bipolar electrosurgery (ES) and an ultrasonic dissection (UD) with regard to collateral thermal nerve injury, and with data of a national multicenter register to study the use of EBD and their potential effects on operation time and complication rates in thyroid surgery. 5. 5. Surgical complications after vaginal and caesarean delivery

    Författare :Charlotta Larsson; Pär Nordin; Ewa Lundgren; Katarina Tunón; Peter Mathiessen; Umeå universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Background: Obstetric anal sphincter injuries (OASIS) after vaginal delivery are the most common cause of anal incontinence in women. Symptoms range from faecal urgency and soiling to inability to control flatus and passive faecal incontinence.
