    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to study surgical and neurological complications of preoperative invasive investigations and epilepsy surgery procedures (Papers I-II) and seizure worsening after epilepsy surgery (Paper III). A further aim was to improve reporting of adverse effects related to invasive investigations and epilepsy surgery by proposing and evaluating an evidence-based protocol for monitoring complications (Paper IV).     Sammanfattning : The Swedish Cancer Register was used to determine the relative survival rate in colon and rectal cancer and to estimate the occurrence of second cancers related to radiation therapy for rectal cancer. The Swedish Hospital Discharge Register and hospital records were used to estimate the rate of late adverse effects due to radiation therapy for rectal cancer. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Iatrogenic post-operative nerve dysfunction is a significant problem in many areas of surgery and can be caused by collateral thermal injury from activation of energy based surgical devices (EBD).The aims of this thesis were to: create an animal model in order to compare mono- and bipolar electrosurgery (ES) and an ultrasonic dissection (UD) with regard to collateral thermal nerve injury, and with data of a national multicenter register to study the use of EBD and their potential effects on operation time and complication rates in thyroid surgery.
