17. Polyelectrolytes : Bottle-Brush Architectures and Association with Surfactants
Sammanfattning : This thesis has the dual purpose of raising awareness of the importance of the mixing protocol on the end products of polyelectrolyte-oppositely charged surfactant systems, and to contribute to a better understanding of the properties of bottle-brush polyelectrolytes when adsorbed onto interfaces. In the first part of this thesis work, the effects of the mixing protocol and the mixing procedure on formed polyelectrolyte-oppositely charged surfactant aggregates were investigated. LÄS MER
18. On the Internal Sizing Mechanisms of Paper with AKD and ASA Related to Surface Chemistry, Wettability and Friction
Sammanfattning : Paper and board are hydrophobized (sized) to control the spreading and absorption of waterbased inks and retard the absorption and edge penetration of liquid packaging by aqueous liquids. Alkenyl ketene dimers (AKD) and alkenyl succinic anhydride (ASA) are synthetic sizing agents that are generally used under neutral or slightly alkaline papermaking conditions. LÄS MER
19. Lignin nanoparticles for photonic crystals and photothermal films
Sammanfattning : The development of sustainable materials from biobased resources is essential due to environmental concerns posed by fossil-based materials. Lignin is a chemically complex biopolymer that exists in woody tissues of vascular plants. Lignin has many useful properties such as antioxidant activity, thermal stability, UV-absorbance, rigidity and so on. LÄS MER
20. Self assembly of surfactants and polyelectrolytes in solution and at interfaces
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the study of the interactions between polyelectrolytes and surfactants in aqueous solutions and at interfaces, as well as on the structural changes these molecules undergo due to that interaction. Small–angle neutron scattering, dynamic, and static light scattering were the main techniques used to investigate the interactions in bulk. LÄS MER
